Day 21: Intercom, Dawn

Jan 11, 2007 02:47

The sun rose as it always did--over peaks of mountains and the valley between. Light washed through the windows and over the floors of Landel's Institute, and it seemed to be in good spirits that the Head Doctor clicked on the intercom and said his piece ( Read more... )

After living this life as a monk, Naoe was a little surprised how easily he fell into the role of a business assistant. The man that had come to him with the nightmares of a woman was very kind and concerned about what was the right path for him to take. Seeing a man with so much power openly express so much insecurity was something that Naoe was not used to. But it was nice.

He had gone to sleep that night thinking about these things and wondering when his real abilities would be required. He could sense that there was more to the nightmares than just what others thought, and he knew the old man was convinced of it. It had been very strange, not to go to sleep thinking about Kagetora or Takaya, but Naoe had ruined it by thinking that thought right before actually passing out.

He heard a voice and it made his eyes snap open. "Good morning--" the voice began. Naoe sat up and looked around quickly. It wasn't a voice that he knew and this wasn't a place that he knew. He made sure that there was no one else in the room and listened to what the voice had to say. What is this? he asked. A hospital? The room looked like some sort of sterile hospital or prison room. His eyes glanced downwards and then widened slightly at the big happy face staring up at him. What the hell? he thought, even though he wasn't one to usually curse.

The voice ended on a note about loved ones. Loved ones. If Naoe had been in any other situation he would have laughed. Loved ones. What a joke.

As it was his face remained blank as he clasped his hands in front of him. He wasn't Haruie after all, he couldn't sense things without focusing on them. The problem was.... he couldn't sense anything. Frowning he closed his eyes tighter and tried again. There was a little bit of something... confusion and something... dark... but that was it.

Absorption spell. It wasn't as strong as it could be because he could still use a little of his ability. Whoever had captured him was probably an amateur at it. After over four hundred years it was a little laughable to think that anyone would be an amateur that anything. He moved towards the door, intending to find a way out of this room.

"Good morning Mr. Nakamura!" said a very cheerful woman who entered the room and surprised him a little. "Oh! You're already up! That's good."

Naoe frowned. "Excuse me?" he asked, looking at her cautiously to take any clues from her. She wasn't a Possessor, at least not that he could tell. She was just... a woman. A nurse by the look of what she was wearing.

"Hm?" she asked, not sure what he was asking for.

"What did you call me?" Naoe tried again.

"Your name, of course. Adam Nakamura."

Naoe blinked. That was new. First of all 'Adam' was an English name (or something else Western, Naoe wasn't sure what country it actually came from) and he had never had an English name before. The name of his current vessel was Tachibana Yoskiaki and that was very different from the name that she gave him. However, he wasn't sure what was going on and it was better to gather more information. He smiled. "Oh yes, sorry I didn't hear you correctly."

At his reaction she smiled. "That's good, Mr. Nakamura," she said, sounding relieved.

"I'm sorry Miss," Naoe said, shaking his head. "Where are we again?"

"This is Landel's Institution, Mr. Nakamura," she said again, frowning in disappointment. "And it's time for breakfast. Would you like for me to take you to the cafeteria?"

Naoe smiled again. "Thank you," he said, bowing slightly to her. "Breakfast really does sound very good." In reality the food that man had spoke about seemed a little too heavy for breakfast and made Naoe's stomach feel uneasy, but he didn't show this as he continued to smile in what appeared to be a very sincere way.

She seemed to respond to it correctly anyway. Relieved, he supposed. After she did a quick check up they left together to head towards the cafeteria for breakfast.
