Day 21: Intercom, Dawn

Jan 11, 2007 02:47

The sun rose as it always did--over peaks of mountains and the valley between. Light washed through the windows and over the floors of Landel's Institute, and it seemed to be in good spirits that the Head Doctor clicked on the intercom and said his piece.

"Good morning, patients, nurses, doctors! Another day has arrived, and with it, new resolutions, new actions, new ways in which to improve oneself for the rest of the world. I know one promise I want to partake in is to make sure our new patients feel as welcome as they possibly can. Of course, by 'new patients,' I mean Adam Nakamura, Christopher Maxwell, Gary Sanders, Leon Flowers, and Roland Langley, who I'm sure will all make great additions to our roster."

A shuffle of paper, then a relieved sigh.

"Ah, yes, the menu for today! Breakfast will consist of french toast this time, which of course can come with either butter, syrup, or both! As far as sides, we have scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, regular toast, and for our vegetarians, a fruit platter or a variety of cold cereal. Drinks include orange juice, milk, water, and a new addition of cranberry juice for those of you who want a kick in the morning!"

He had perhaps toed the line with that last bit, and cleared his throat in a bad cover-up.

"Also, a reminder for anyone who hasn't taken a look at the weekly schedule--which is posted up for convenience on the bulletin board--tomorrow is Sunday, which means that it will be a busy day indeed! For those of you who believe that Sunday is a day of worship, service will be taking place in the upstairs chapel, which you are very welcome to attend if you ask your nurses to escort you there. For those of you who aren't comfortable with that, you're perfectly welcome to relax down in the Sun Room. And what of breakfast? Why--you don't get breakfast or lunch on Sunday!"

The Head Doctor paused, as if he had expected his claim to evoke some form of indignation.

"....Because you get an all-you-can-eat brunch on Sunday! Yes, yes, Sunday is wonderful, especially because it is in the later two Sunday shifts that your loved ones are allowed to visit you here at the Institute, and those of you who don't have visitors are free to roam within our patient-safe portion of the premises."

The Head Doctor took a breath from his long and overenthusiastic rambling, then continued.

"I believe that is all! Enjoy the weekend, everybody!"

The intercom clicked off.
