Day 31: Intercom, Evening

Apr 15, 2008 02:53

The intercom's jingle came on with its usual overly-cheery quality, echoing through the halls and doctors' offices ( Read more... )

Nia nearly forgot how good sleeping felt, curled up into the crisp sheets until she practically choked. The princess remained blissfully unaware of this, however, drifting between sweet dreams about riding in Lagann's cockpit with Simon. That was enough to entice a small giggle until a hand began to pull her from dream-like state ( ... )

"In you go, Sean," Nurse Hedgerow urged, her tone concerned. Artemis staggered into the room, still in a stupor from the drugs--the drugs he didn't remember, of course. He fell halfway to his bed, still unable to walk by himself. Thank goodness his nurse had let him back into the Sun Room to check the board, otherwise he could have met with a rather embarrassing situation concerning Schwarz and the coming night.

The nurse helped him to his feet and into bed, then gave him something for his nausea. Part of Artemis knew that it wouldn't do any good, but it was always worth a try. He was extremely sick to his stomach at this point.

"Do you need a bucket, Sean?" She asked, clearly very concerned. Artemis just stared at her, wondering why it sounded like she was talking to him from down the hallway.

Haku was led to his room, nodding as his nurse chattered, only paying attention when she suddenly stopped. He looked curiously into his room, and frowned at the state Artemis seemed to be in. His nurse hesitated and it was only a desire to NOT be sedated himself that kept him from going in to help.

Chris didn't know the first thing about medicine after all. His nurse frowned and glance at Miss Hedgerow, wondering if she shouldn't take Haku elsewhere. A shame, he thought, since he'd probably be able to do more than these two for him... and there was food he recognized and actually wanted to eat as well..

Artemis' nurse turned around when the door opened. "Oh, please come in Chris. Sean just came down with a little food poisoning during his therapy session--nothing to worry about." She nodded to Haku's nurse to indicate that there was nothing seriously wrong with her charge.

"I'm going to leave your dinner, just in case you feel like eating, okay?"

Artemis really didn't even want to look at it, but let her leave it all the same. Haku might want it, and perhaps if he made his roommate eat two portions, Zabuza wouldn't string him up by his thumbs... yet.

His nurse left the room and Artemis tried to find Haku. However, there were two of him, and which one was the drug-induced image was unclear. So he stared in Haku's general direction with a vacant expression.

Haku made the appropriate worried sounds and expressions until his nurse left with the other. Then he turned and frowned at Artemis.

"Unless your doctor was feeding you, which I doubt, this looks like regular, run of the mill poisoning." He stepped a bit closer and sounded honestly concerned now. "If I get too close or touch you, are you going to vomit all over me?" Haku had had worse, but he wanted to be prepared.

What to do.

So far Parker hadn't given them much information to work on, except confirmation that Logan did have some kind of powers. Brock wasn't really keen on the idea of a truce, even if they did plan for it to be temporary. But the fact was he knew jack shit about Logan or whatever powers he had, which could make any brawling a bit hairy if he didn't have any idea what he was going up against. They'd already been injured by Kasady just going in gunning for him. They weren't going to make the same mistake twice with Logan.

It still killed Brock to have to put on a smile and act like he didn't want to string up the dwarf ( ... )

His roommate appeared to be missing.

Qui-Gon hadn't seen the eccentric young man for quite some time, which was telling. It was common for patients to disappear in Landels, with no explanation, and Rabastan seemed to be the latest in a line of those who had vanished. Frowning, Qui-Gon set down his journal, sitting down at his desk and glancing over at the empty bed. It was neat, the sheets starched, and he supposed that one of the staff had straightened out the room. Checking his hiding place, he was gratified to find that the knife he'd received from the man behind the radio was still where he left it.

It was disturbing to see his roommate missing. Another thing he would have to look into, right up there with assembling a commlink and learning more about Martin Landel. Where did the missing go? What happened to them?

Overall, it hadn't been a bad day, although not quite as productive as the previous one. Given his condition, it was more productive than Vlad could have expected, even if a wheelchair did for some reason seem to be a magnet for little girls to come up and talk. Though really, dear little Rhode shouldn't properly be considered a little girl, and perhaps Ururu should have a category of her own also...

His thoughts as he was wheeled back into his room were disrupted by the sight of his roommate. Vlad waited for the nurse to finish helping him into bed, a task which was remarkably uncomfortable, then propping him up with some pillows and positioning the tray within reach of his uninjured arm.

Finally, the chirpy woman left, wheelchair and all, and Vlad smiled over at his new roommate. "Hello, I don't believe we've met."

Qui-Gon looked up from his meal - some kind of fried Earthian vegetables - as the door opened. He watched as another patient was wheeled in, a broad-shouldered man with grayed hair that looked somewhat out of place for his age, who was helped into the bed by the nurse. So it appeared he had a new roommate. The new roommate in question smiled over at him.

"I don't believe we have," Qui-Gon said. He dipped his head in a slight nod. "I'm Qui-Gon Jinn."

It was a little difficult to tell exactly how old his new roommate was. The man looked to be middle-aged, but his hair was entirely gray, as if he was much older.

At least the other man had manners. Vlad nodded back. "I'm Vlad. Vlad Masters. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Qui-Gon Jinn? It sounded vaguely Asian, but the man didn't look particularly Asian. Well, in this circumstance, trying to name a continent on Earth was possibly a futile cause. "So, are you from an Earth as well, or something more exotic?"

His wounds weren't quite as painful, laying back like this. He began to eat slowly, not eager to wrench his good arm in the effort. Besides, it pulled a bit on his chest and back, both of which were still aching from last night's unfortunate encounter. Tonight would certainly not be a night for exploring, at any rate.

Sanji was feeling much better come dinnertime than he had when he'd woken up that morning. All the same, he still suffered the occasional small dizzy spell, and the idea of doing anything too strenuous that night worried him a bit. He couldn't just lay about in his room, though. Not when there were more important things to be doing.

Laying about here wouldn't allow him a smoke break, either, and he rather thought a cigarette might help his foggy head some.

He'd situated himself in bed when the nurse arrived with his food, and the man was nice enough to bring it right to him. It looked far better than lunch had, but Sanji had resigned himself to not thinking much about what this place had in their food.

Sanji raised his head to give Light a smile in greeting. "That easy to tell, huh? Nah, don't trouble yourself. I've seen worse." How many times had he said that today? It was as though he needed the reminder himself. This was nothing. "Ran into something lovely but monstrous that wouldn't accept my affections. You know how it goes."

He leaned back a bit, sipping his tea. He'd just take it easy during dinner (as he had for most of the day, he couldn't help but remind himself), and hopefully he'd at least be able to manage with a limp when the doors opened. He'd done well enough after the last shift.
