Nightshift 30: Kitchen

Mar 09, 2008 19:39

[from hereRenji slammed into the kitchen door full force, though not with the side he had Artemis on. The rusted out lock gave with a metallic shriek, the door springing wide open, and he fell through to the other side of the doorway, hitting the floor gracelessly. He shoved Artemis away and lunged to his feet, slamming the door shut behind ( Read more... )

[from here]

Still whimpering, Mason crawled into the kitchen. He'd lost his flashlight somewhere, and he was just lucky to still have his book and his smokes.

"Okay, you bloody fire-breathing thing," the reaper called out, really really hoping that the fire-monster wasn't here and that he was talking to thin air. "Please don't eat me, 'cause I'm fucking lean meat anyway and you can't kill me, so I'll just be all chewed-up bits in your stomach kicking around, which won't be fun for anyone. So don't eat me and I'll tell you where you can find some nice pickings, yeah?" he offered.

With that, he collapsed face-first on the floor.

Bloody hell. What a night.

Artemis hit the floor and rolled a bit, taken aback at how quickly things seemed to have changed pace. One moment he was about to open his mouth and explain his plan to Hitsugaya and Renji, and the next he was a human parcel again.

At this point, most people would be happy to have found a separate solution to the problem. Running past was, in essence, easier and safer than actually confronting Gilgamesh. Artemis, however, wasn't feeling like celebrating their good fortune.

In the same way that people became sexually frustrated from time to time, Artemis was steadily growing intellectually frustrated. He was at the top of his game after his confrontation with Mello, and every attempt he'd made to make himself useful ended in him being dragged along like dead weight. He couldn't even heal Hitsugaya or Renji, as they hadn't sustained any injury. Why had Hitsugaya even brought him along? Why'd he ever bring Artemis along ( ... )

Hitsugaya was right behind Renji. He didn't bother to glance behind or question why. If someone said to go now, there was almost always an advantage that would be lost if they spent time debating the issue. He quickly shined his flashlight around the kitchen, wary for any new foes that might be ready for them, even checking the ceiling in case of the spiders that others had described on the boards ( ... )

Renji remembered that the door opened outward; that means he couldn't just take a running jump at it. He walked over, examined the lock with a little help from his flashlight, and then proceeded to bash it to pieces with the help of the hilt of his sword. He opened the door to let Artemis and Hitsugaya through. "Should be a hole near that corner," he said, pointing in the vague direction he remembered it being. "Might be covered up now, though, or something. It was already open when I got in last night, but people'd come through already."

[coming from here]

Barely managing to haul himself, his staff, and Tsukiyono into the room, Frey knelt on the floor for a moment, struggling to breathe. His side was cut deeply, his shoulder was bruised to the bone, he had a plethora of other cuts on his arms and legs, and he'd managed to bump his head on the door, of all things. Mostly, Frey wanted to lie down and cry, but Thursday was still out there and she had not been looking good.

Turning back to the now-open door, Frey squinted and stared into the other room, praying that he'd see Thursday following them into the relative safety of the kitchen. If he had to go back out there for her Frey really might start to cry, though he'd always prided himself on never letting anyone see such emotional weakness from him. "Thursaday? Are you..."

Omi curled up around the wound as soon as they stopped moving. So they'd made it, but he at least was worthless now. Great. He'd underestimated their opponent, and it had almost gotten them all killed. That sounded more like Michael than Omi.

He wanted to go home.

"Coming," Thursday managed through gritted teeth as she dragged herself through the open door. The movement wouldn't exactly do wonders for her injuries - pain shot through her leg every time she moved it - but she had long passed caring, was only moving now through sheer stubbornness.

Thankfully, it didn't seem the creature - man - thing outside was interested in following them into the kitchen. Thursday collapsed against the wall, peering blearily down at the cuts she'd received. Two cuts across the back and shoulder - one significantly deeper than the other - one across the lower part of her ribcage, one along the side of her leg, all of them bleeding and hurting like hell.

She wouldn't be dying anytime soon, but she doubted she'd be of much use for the rest of the night. She might be able to walk, if she could find a makeshift crutch. Omi and Frey, though...

"Are you guys all right - " No. Stupid question. "Think we can go on?"

"I can... I can heal. I don't know how much, here, but at least Tsukiyono... your wound..." Well, of course Tsukiyono had more than wound, like the rest of them, but it wasn't hard to figure out which wound Frey was talking about--that terrible belly wound, which frankly terrified Frey. The last person he'd known who'd been stabbed there... well. It had taken the full power of the Dawn Rune to heal her, and even then it hadn't quite been enough, in the end. But he had to try.

[Getting suddenly teleported in from here]

To his eternal humiliation, the first thing HK did upon finding himself in a totally different room was to squeak and fall over. At least SubZero hadn't been around to see that. He stayed on the floor for a few moments, looking around. He was in the kitchen, two rooms away from where he had just been.

He decided he wasn't even going to try and comment on how badly this defied the laws of physics.

"Get up, HK, we have work to do," And they also needed to find Arlene. Of course, she knew where they were heading, so no doubt she'd either be on her way to the basement or possibly already there.

It didn't look like HK was too injured to stand, but SubZero was confident the other assassin would let him know if he was in any way injured. Probably very loudly and with some insults added in.

"Statement: Yes, meatbag, I know. Sarcasm: I was just enjoying the scenic vista of the cupboard over there." HK pointed at the apparently noteworthy cupboard.

Not wanting to wait around for some kitchen-dwelling monster to attack them, SubZero walked over to HK and held out a hand to help the other assassin get to his feet.

"Just get up so we can get to the fridge already," SubZero would enjoy being cold again, he felt even more feverish than he had earlier. He was even starting to sweat.

((Coming from here.))

It didn't look like there was anybody hiding in here, waiting to make life even more difficult for them. Kimbley slipped inside and looked around, then sighed in vague irritation.

Finally. It had taken long enough.

"The way down is through that center door," he said, motioning vaguely toward it. "It's hidden through a discolored tile near the back."

When Kimbley had stuck his foot through and had nothing happen, Roy had been a little reluctant to follow when he continued on through with near to no hesitation. He had taken a deep breath before following after the Crimson Alchemist, and was relieved to come out safe and sound on the other end.

Granted, most of that concern he kept from showing outwardly, though he was visibly glad to see that only other patients seemed to be inhabiting the kitchen.

Come to think of it, this was probably a good place to collect some more metal, but now wasn't the time for that. There were others who were willing to do that for him, after all. Listening to Kimbley, Roy only nodded. "Then what are you waiting for?"

Knives watched them mildly curious. He was a little interested to see what was underneath this place. So this trip was at least going to be somewhat entertaining. He still expressed no opinion, though a slight smirk did appear on his face at the way that Roy spoke to the other man.

Kimbley gave Roy a long look, then smirked and leaned in a bit close. Put him on the spot? Try a hundred years ...

"I showed you how to get there," he said. "I did what I promised. I don't really have any further obligations to you, but I'll take you straight down there out of the goodness of my heart."

And maybe something else, too. The basement would be sparsely populated.

Turning away, he headed for the slightly-open door and pulled it open, passing into the refrigerator with his smirk still on his face.

((Going here.))
