All in all, it appeared to have been good timing on his part to leave the hallway when he did, having no desire to partake in the struggle that was going on only several yards away. Jade didn’t even bother to give a fleeting glance on the whole scenario, more interested with what was ahead of him than what was behind. It was a situation that could more or less be easily averted by taking a different route when he was through.
The Colonel kept up the pace as he strode down the hall, stopping in front of the door he’d stumbled upon nearly a week ago. As predicted, the door was locked, which gave him no choice but to use brute force to barge his way in. Common sense already clued him in on that using the meat cleaver would be more of a waste than anything, so he was left using his artes for the moment.
Jade clenched his hand, stretching his fingertips before he pointed his arm at the aforementioned door. With no one there to serve as an audience, he found it much easier to concentrate on gathering the necessary particles for his attack. It was no surprise to him that it took much longer to summon the arte, releasing it at the door with a bright flash before the lock dropped to the floor, now in shambles.
Wiping the bead of sweat that poured into his brow, he twisted the doorknob and made his way inside.
