Day 30: Staff, Morning

Feb 14, 2008 03:14

Burly orderlies and agile Calm Effect nurses flooded the cafeteria from the Courtyard while regular hall nurses filed in from the Sun Room and ushered out those not involved in the rebellion. It indeed seemed as if Landel was sending out all the cavalry, and an effective cavalry they were: The riot didn't continue for much longer after the alarm ( Read more... )

The nurse had chattered blandly to her as she was escorted back to the room, praising her for not getting involved and speaking to her like she was a child needing to be soothed. Rangiku babbled in the foolish tone she'd adopted, trying to gather every bit of information that she could; wasn't it wonderful that those other nurses had arrived but where had they come from? And how had they managed to subdue so many of those nasty violent people so quickly?

But no reasonable answer was forthcoming and really, Rangiku wan't to forget this charade and snap at the woman that she wasn't so weak minded as to need comforting after this. And possibly to try to snap her neck. she'd have to find Gin later and see what he'd managed to get.

She flopped down on the bed staring up at the ceiling and without Gin's warm presence there, that black guilt began to rise again. She forced it down as far as she could and closed her eyes. Maybe she could get some sleep, although she might even get to meet her new roommate.

As the nurses arrived for Cid and Sai, the ninja had offered them the usual fake smile and gone along without any arguing. He'd rather expected this sort of outcome, and was not at all surprised that all the rioters he'd seen had been brought down. As his own nurse met him in the hall, he heard her mutter to one of the other staff members nearby "See? I told you he stays out of trouble. You owe me ten dollars."

And then he was left to ponder exactly what they were talking about, sitting quietly on the edge of his bed. There was no way to know how long they'd be there, and he could certainly use the shower he was sure they had planned for that day...

Kurikara was slow to wake. He was vaguely aware of the nurses wheeling him around and being moved off one thing and onto another. When he did stir, he thought the drugs must be a lot stronger than the last batch because his arms and legs wouldn't move despite his struggling.

It took him a lot longer than he would have liked to realize he was restrained. Kurikara didn't struggle much more. He needed all of his energy to string one coherent thought after the other.

The fighting, Hiei, the weakness...before or after the drugs? He couldn't be sure if he was just imagining it, and soon enough he forgot why it was even important. Kurikara forced his eye open and looked down at the restraint, silent for once with his thoughts.

"Ah... Are you awake, Kurikara-san?" Sai spoke gently, unsure of how strongly his roommate would be under at this point. He was even less surprised that the supposed dragon was one of the many patients to be sedated. He half surmised that Kurikara went looking for fights on a regular basis despite the usual outcome.

He rose from the bed, wincing only slightly from the pain this caused the bruising on his chest as he did so, and walked slowly to his roommate's side. The restraints seemed firmly in place. From his first glance he could see no weaknesses in them to make use of. Then again, removing the straps would only get them in further trouble, and it wouldn't do either of them any good if Sai ended up tied down as well.

Kurikara tensed at the other voice, his instincts too blurred by the drugs to understand it at first. It was familiar though, and obvious enough that he relaxed again moments later and focused on his roommate instead.

"Aw..Awake." He managed, his voice roughed by the drugs and natural inflection. "A'think. Lots of'drugs."

The kid's name was..ok, the important thing was that he knew it and he'd just misplaced the information. There was a more important thought tugging at his mind. He was supposed to remember something he had to do, hadn't done. It took him several moments before he could form the thoughts and find usable words.

"Las' night.." He started, but the situation was too complicated to explain or remember well in his state. "Stuff didn't happen. Your thing's under the..the..mattress." Kurikara let out a sigh, but he didn't know himself if it was relief or utter frustration. "Drug sucks."

Sanji and Allen hadn't gotten very far in their rescue attempts when it became clear that their efforts weren't needed. The chef had been grabbed roughly at the start, but as they realized he wasn't actually a part of the riot they led him off far more gently. The blond simply scowled at everyone. He should have gotten involved somehow. The only consolation he got out of this outcome was that he wasn't drugged. Nami would be pleased about that.

He gave a huff and flopped down on his bed. Not caring that he'd been meaning to hold off on his cigarettes until dinner, he reached under his pillow and pulled the pack out. He figured the circumstances were out of the ordinary enough that he could allow himself this one for stress relief.

The pack of matches had just been flipped open in Sanji's hand, and he glanced over at Light with a perfectly innocent expression. Like a child unaware that one shouldn't add pepper to the cake batter. "I did. Why?"

He certainly hoped his roommate wasn't protesting because he wanted one also. The chef had a limited supply and, as pleasant as the other man was, he had no desire to share his spoils with anyone else. Who knew when he'd be able to get a hold of any others? Gin... or Gary, maybe. But he hadn't intended on sticking around another week to see the visitors again.

Why should he hurt? Armand wondered. Well, it wasn't hurting so much as aching. He hadn't even been hit, just dragged off his feet and then drugged. But his shoulders ached, and the light was still too bright. Damn modern lights. He thought longingly of the warmth of candles and lamps with flickering oil flames. Not as bright. Warm. Almost alive ( ... )

This had to have been the best day yet. First the doctor woke to find his virus still enclosed in his hand--which, of course, the doctor was quick to hide. He wouldn't lose it now. Not without a fight and he would make whoever tried to take it wishing for death.

After that, he was lead to the cafeteria for what would have been a relatively boring breakfast only to have the room break into a riot. During which, the doctor had to stay back and fight the temptation to hit a few people himself--not all nurses, mind you. It was the principle of it all.

Sadly, it would have drawn too much attention to his character to join in, so the doctor had to settle for keeping himself amused during the duration of the chaos. It didn't last long, much to his disappointment, and soon he was led back to his room where the day got even better.

His roommate was sedated. Joy.

"Is there something you need?"

It took a long while for Armand to realize he'd actually heard William speak. "S'there water?" That was what he tried to say. Even as addled as he was, he wasn't sure that's what came out.

He was still so sluggish he could weep, but something inside stubbornly resisted in front of his roommate. His eyes felt heavy. Even his hair felt heavy.

If William hesitated too long in anwering, Armand felt likely to drift back into sleep. He hadn't slept in days and days.

Oh, it broke his dear heart to see his wonderful roommate in such a state. Dazed and sluggish to the point of undeniable humor delirium--it was all the doctor could do not to take advantage of the moment to toy with his roommate even further.

But then again, where was the fun in that?

"No, I'm sorry, there is none."

When the nurse filed Tenchi back into his room, he was almost relieved. He'd only been in this place for a couple of hours and there was already a riot. As the door closed behind him, he began to realize that it wouldn't be easy to get out of here. The sheer number of nurses and orderlies who had swarmed the cafeteria had proved that to him ( ... )
