Day 30: Staff, Morning

Feb 14, 2008 03:14

Burly orderlies and agile Calm Effect nurses flooded the cafeteria from the Courtyard while regular hall nurses filed in from the Sun Room and ushered out those not involved in the rebellion. It indeed seemed as if Landel was sending out all the cavalry, and an effective cavalry they were: The riot didn't continue for much longer after the alarm ( Read more... )

Why should he hurt? Armand wondered. Well, it wasn't hurting so much as aching. He hadn't even been hit, just dragged off his feet and then drugged. But his shoulders ached, and the light was still too bright. Damn modern lights. He thought longingly of the warmth of candles and lamps with flickering oil flames. Not as bright. Warm. Almost alive ( ... )

This had to have been the best day yet. First the doctor woke to find his virus still enclosed in his hand--which, of course, the doctor was quick to hide. He wouldn't lose it now. Not without a fight and he would make whoever tried to take it wishing for death.

After that, he was lead to the cafeteria for what would have been a relatively boring breakfast only to have the room break into a riot. During which, the doctor had to stay back and fight the temptation to hit a few people himself--not all nurses, mind you. It was the principle of it all.

Sadly, it would have drawn too much attention to his character to join in, so the doctor had to settle for keeping himself amused during the duration of the chaos. It didn't last long, much to his disappointment, and soon he was led back to his room where the day got even better.

His roommate was sedated. Joy.

"Is there something you need?"

It took a long while for Armand to realize he'd actually heard William speak. "S'there water?" That was what he tried to say. Even as addled as he was, he wasn't sure that's what came out.

He was still so sluggish he could weep, but something inside stubbornly resisted in front of his roommate. His eyes felt heavy. Even his hair felt heavy.

If William hesitated too long in anwering, Armand felt likely to drift back into sleep. He hadn't slept in days and days.

Oh, it broke his dear heart to see his wonderful roommate in such a state. Dazed and sluggish to the point of undeniable humor delirium--it was all the doctor could do not to take advantage of the moment to toy with his roommate even further.

But then again, where was the fun in that?

"No, I'm sorry, there is none."

"Damn!" Armand put as much energy into the curse as he could.

Already forgetting that he was restrained, he tried to sit up and felt surprise when he couldn't. "Whas wrong?"

He remembered the cafeteria. Maybe... maybe he should just sleep again. That sounded like a good idea.

William hid a smile at Armand's expense. He couldn't be too sure how aware the other man was with his surroundings, so rather than end the game before it began he would have to be very careful.

"It's a pity," William started, turning towards his desk in hopes to find his journal. "Did you hear how the riot ended?"

Armand stopped struggling and relaxed against the mattress. If he didn't push, he didn't hurt so badly. The lights weren't hurting his eyes so much now either.

"We lost?" he asked. He didn't want to know how badly. He hadn't seen much of anything after he was pulled off the table, and everything else was fuzzy for a few moments before that.

"Nice bed," he added, and closed his eyes. He wasn't asleep, but it took effort to cling to that scrap of attention it took to keep listening to William.

William gave the other man what could only be considered a mournful nod--if the other man could even see him, anyway. If he couldn't it wasn't too much of a loss, but it was always wise to take precautions otherwise.

"I'm afraid so, all those who had thought quickly enough to revolt were subdued," William stated. "And now we're all currently locked in our rooms as a result."

"I'm sorry," Armand whispered. He kept his eyes firmly closed.

"It wasn't supposed to go that way." He was afraid he was whining. "Do you know when they're going to let me out of this contraption?"
