hereRenji kept his pace to a fast walk, one hand still lightly against the wall as he headed for his room. He counted doorways; that would tell him which one was his, though he could have done just as well counting his paces, too

The shinigami nodded to Hitsugaya in acknowledgment as she searched for Signum's. She was starting to get the feeling that the pink-haired knight was still outside. Which brought up another idea.
"Taichou," she said in a measured voice as she still searched for Signum's thread. "Given the situation with the buses, may I have permission for my team to attempt to scale the outside walls where the buses were now that we have access to the external grounds?" If she had her full strength, she could level the place and free everyone else - especially with the rest of her team.

Hitsugaya nodded slightly at Momo's suggestion. Why hadn't he thought of that? Was he slipping in this place? Twice in one day he missed golden opportunities. At least with this opportunity he knew one thing...they still had the key to the front yard. "Good idea. As soon as Abarai-fukutaicho wakes, make all haste in this effort."
With all business concluded, he stepped out of the room, secure in the knowledge that Renji was alive and would eventually be well.

Subaru. She didn't dare let herself think too long about the possibility of him being gone again; she just hadn't been able to find him, that was all.
"So," she said, willing herself to be calm and keep her voice steady. "My brother's here. I wanted to introduce you, but... I couldn't find him today. I told him about Arts and Crafts--he's not a joiner, though. Still, he wants to ask you a few things." She tried to smile; he was just worried for her. Even before she died, it would be understandable. But since then, he'd changed so much...

The shinigami's lip twitched as the blood finally reached it and she furrowed her brow. Where was... There. She'd found trace of Signum outside, so the knight was probably still fighting on the bus. Momo relaxed and leaned back, her head tilted against the bed, and she wiped at the blood on her face.
"I hate this place," she mumbled, pinching the bridge of her nose to help lessen some of the headache.
She cracked an eye open and looked up at Hokuto. "That's fine,' she said. "I'll answer any questions he has. Do you intend on staying with Arts & Crafts or are you intending on spending the nights with him?"

She pulled herself to her feet, wiping the blood from her nose onto her already blood-stained sweater, she paused a moment for her head to clear. Then she crossed over to Hokuto and, standing by the bed, gently smoothed her head back from her face. She leaned down and kissed the girl on the forehead before letting her hand rest at the back of her neck. Fingers lightly stroked along the back of the girl's neck in an attempt to get her to calm down.
"You are very brave, Hokuto-chan," she said quietly. "But it cannot be easy to see him again."

The shingami swallowed and, with a slightly shaking hand, pulled Hokuto so her head was resting against her chest. She returned her one hand to the back of the girl's neck and tentatively put her other hand on the girl's shoulder. It was the best she could do at the moment, and even that was hard for her.
Her eyes traveled to watch Renji as he sat propped up on the bed. "We make out own happiness, Hokuto-chan. You need to keep that in mind. If your brother is not happy, there is a reason for it - one of his own choosing. It doesn't make it right, but it is his choice."

"Things should be a little better, while we're both here," she murmured. "No responsibilities except the ones we choose, we can relax during the day, and--even if being held prisoner isn't something any of us would want, for Subaru this could almost be a vacation. He said he can't even sense spirits here." That had to be a relief, at least in some ways. It was just him inside his head--maybe he needed that, right now.

"Life is never easy for spiritually aware humans. There is much that preys upon them," she continued, trying to ignore her growing discomfort. She closed her eyes. "It may be a relief now, but in a few days he'll wish for what was taken from him, even if it was a burden before."

"Maybe he will," she admitted. "But--at least until he does, I want to be with him." No, they weren't supposed to be here--but she and Subaru weren't supposed to be separated, either. Not like this.
Trying to chuckle, she added, "Maybe they do grief counseling here."

"He is your brother; of course you want to be with him. Should you ever decide to leave Arts & Crafts to be with him at night as well, you are free to go. You are not bound by duty as the shinigami are," she said.
Momo finally couldn't take it any more and let go, stepping back just a bit. She did take Hokuto's chin in her hand and make the girl look her in the eyes. "You do not want the help or attention of any of the staff here. That may have been a joke to try and lighten your mood, but please, I beg you, play along with the fictitious life they have assigned us here," she said seriously, but gently. "Remember what you saw on the bus. All of the staff here are our enemies."

"Sorry," she added, sighing. "I just thought I should tell you why Subaru's probably going to be so overprotective. If you want to ask more, go ahead... it's not a secret, it's just hard to talk about. If you think Signum and Saber need to know... I'm tempted to ask you to tell them." She didn't mind people knowing, but she wasn't in any hurry to tell the whole story again.

The shinigami crossed over to Renji and readjusted the way he was sitting up so she could lay his sword across his lap and place his hand back upon the hilt. She used the time honored tradition of females everywhere and wipe the blood off of his face using her spit and thumb to accomplish the task. She also rummaged around in his room and found a flashlight, whether it be his or his roommates, and set it against his other hand.
She stepped back and looked at the redheaded vice captain and sighed. She then went to his desk and tore a piece of his journal out and quickly wrote a message on it, crossing out part of it and rewriting.
We used the last of Fowl-san's special blood. Take care, Renji. My team is attempting escape. If I don't come back and I don;t tear this place down with Tobiume, please tell Shiro-chan I ( ... )

Hokuto could guess why they'd changed their plans, but still asked, "Has anyone looked at the basement yet? If we're trying to break the seal on our powers, that sounds like a good place to look for the... artifact, or whatever it would be." She was picturing something with lots of runes that involved at least one crystal... she really wished she knew more about this kind of thing. The pathetic part was that all she had here was sealing magic, so she should really know a little more about this!
