Day 28: T&M Electronics

Nov 04, 2007 16:52

((From here. ))Claude held the door open for Guy before stepping inside himself. Pausing, he gazed around at the variety of gadgets that were set up around the shop -- old radios and televisions, portable disc players, headphones, speakers, and all sorts of other things he didn't entirely recognize right away due to the sheer age of all these ( Read more... )

Guy was relieved when Claude ended up wanting to take a look as much as he did. It could have been considered a waste of time, since they weren't likely to get any actual information here, but he promised himself they wouldn't spend too much time in this one store ( ... )

So Earth technology wasn't like fontech. Claude made a mental note of that, though he couldn't help but wish he knew a few more details about Auldrant's technology. It sounded really different than how they did things back home, perhaps even more natural, and less harmful to the environment. Unfortunately, it was also probably one of those things he'd have to see with his own eyes to completely understand, which wasn't going to happen anytime soon ( ... )

When Guy realized that Claude was handling some of the merchandise, it made him feel a little more open to the idea of doing so himself. He knew he would be gentle with everything, and if Claude was doing it than it was probably allowed. The other blond knew a lot more about this sort of technology, after all, even if he claimed it was all dated as far as he knew ( ... )

Claude nodded at the bit about the batteries. "Yeah, and I'd say they'll run out sooner than later, too. These models aren't that sophisticated compared to what I'm used to, so I doubt they hold that much energy. We should figure something out, or else we're going to be stuck in the dark at night." He paused, thinking a moment. "If you're going out with friends, I'd suggest just sharing one flashlight between all of you as much as you can, and just taking turns with them each night ( ... )

Quatre entered the electronics store with a curious expression. He doubted that he would be allowed to take anything back the the hospital, but if he could find anything with useful parts he would just have to get creative. He didn't like the idea of stealing either, but desperate times...

He browsed as if he were merely shopping, but really wanted to look at the components of the merchandise.

[From here]

What they really needed, Qui-Gon realized after some thought, was some way to keep in contact with each other even should they get separated. And while he was quite interested to see up close and personal just how Earthians built their land-cars or what they considered "antiques", they weren't very high priority just yet. Escape would not be possible in a day, and considering that they had a mission in Landels, one that wouldn't end until they better understood and could deal with Martin Landel, Qui-Gon knew that they could be in this place quite a long time. That also meant longer nights: while he was aware of the fact that Obi-Wan was competent, and one of the most capable Jedi he knew, Qui-Gon would feel a bit more at ease if he had a way of contacting him over long distances. Or at least just the range of Landels's facility.

Wandering the streets for a bit, Qui-Gon paused as he caught sight of a sign:

T&M Electronics.

"This way," was all Qui-Gon would say, leading them inside.

Obi-Wan followed his former teacher inside with a vaguely puzzled expression. He was sure Qui-Gon had a more solid reason for entering this shop than for mere research, especially considering how he'd headed straight here as soon as he'd caught sight of it.

Once he actually got a good look at what was inside the store, Obi-Wan started to have at least a better sense of why Qui-Gon had led them here. There were quite a few gadgets and electronic devices inside -- all of Earthian crafstmanship, no doubt. He'd certainly seen more advanced pieces of equipment before, but the things available here weren't as underdeveloped as Obi-Wan had been initially expecting, considering how backward Earthian culture could be.

Then again, that wasn't exactly saying much.

There was a lot he could have said to Qui-Gon, but considering they were being watched by people, he didn't want to draw too much attention to themselves. So, instead, he clasped his hands behind his back and pleasantly said, "My, they seem to have quite a selection here."

Qui-Gon nodded. "Indeed. Much more than I was expecting ( ... )

Obi-Wan picked up a pack of batteries and examined them closely. It was true there were probably a lot of things in here they could use, especially if they wanted to build their own equipment somehow. But the fact remained that stealing things and getting them past the nurses and into institute's walls would be considerably trickier, especially considering the time limit they were working under by this point. Not to mention the idea of stealing from people didn't sit all that well with Obi-Wan in the first place, but that was an entirely different issue altogether.

"I feel like I could I could stay here and browse all day," Obi-Wan said after a moment. "Too bad our trip only lasts so long."

He set down the pack of batteries and glanced around. Once he noticed some portable disc players on display, he made his way over and
studied them carefully. "But you know, I think I saw models just like these back at the institute. Somehow, I'm not surprised ( ... )
