Javert had returned to his room earlier that afternoon, preferring to sit and read in solitude rather than be forced to listen to the sound of other conversations going on around him. He only looked up briefly when the nurse entered with both his meal and his roommate's.

The food was good, as it always was, but Javert was distracted by both the book and thoughts of the approaching Nightshift. Aside from meeting, he had no idea what he, Trevelyan, and St. Just were planning to do.

Perhaps looking for the basement would be a good idea...

[ Escorted from here. ]

The orderly had mentioned a roommate before leaving; the room was still empty. Riddick took a seat at his desk and piled into the food, eating fast as he'd learned to do from a life of prison sentences and running from the law. One thing I'll give them, the food here is excellent.

Well, that certainly went as he expected, which ultimately wasn't as good of a thing as one would expect.

Jade held back a heavy sigh as he entered the room, putting on his usual smile as he looked about the cramped space. It would seem that he had a roommate after all, except this man hardly fit in with the picture he had in his head. Not that the Colonel minded, surprises were always a part of life and this Institute was certainly full of them.

He took his seat only after the nurse gave him his plate and left the two men alone, resting alongside the edge of his bed. Jade set said object on his lap, instead focusing on the latter whom occupied the desk.

"What a coincidence that we'd be assigned the same room." He started up with a smile.

Riddick leaned back in his chair, already done with most of his food. He studied the roommate for a moment, noting the extremely long hair and good looks. He'd be real popular in prison.

"Yeah, here I was wondering if I was gonna land with Superman or some shit." A slight smirk before he continued, "Name's Riddick, whatever the fuck these jokers think." He nodded towards nowhere in particular, indicating the Landel's powers-that-be. Then he was chewing the last bite of steak.

Never mind, being an optimist never did him any good.

This man's demeanor accented his personality almost perfectly, but what more was there to say? He obviously had the body of a brute and cursed like a sailor, but at least it would open up the opportunity for some interesting conversations.

"My apologies, there isn't anything 'super' about me, though it's a pleasure to meet you anyway. I'm Jade." Jade made no move to get up, feeling that there was no need to when both men were willing to talk. Instead, he delved into his own meal, eating it in a more regal manner compared to his roommate.

"How long have you been here? I expect the the question isn't an odd one considering that most of us were taken against our will." And yet he said this with a laugh.

Oh no.

Peas again.. and just when Ashton thought he was rid of them. Corn for a day had spoiled him, hadn't it? Of all the things to go pop in his mouth, he'd definitely much rather it be corn. Steak, though - he bet Claude was happy with that. Ashton had been able to experience a lovely hamburger on his first day in the Institute as well, so it seemed fitting that Claude should, too. It baffled him, though, why they had stopped serving dessert. If they were going to open the doors on them at night, it really only served logic that they should give them something sweet so they could have that extra burst of energy, right ( ... )

"Hey beautiful." Axel grinned as he stepped inside the room, his nurse giving him a strange look before shaking her head. It seemed like he was in a better mood than usual, though the redhead was hardly ever in a bad mood. He quickly settled onto his bed, sitting up cross-legged while his food was prepared (after asking for the caesar salad) and waved the woman off when she left.

"So I see you got a lot going on tonight," Were the first words that came out of Axel's mouth when they were finally alone. He expertly stabbed a pea into each tip of the fork, nibbling at the pieces before continuing.

"You should get some rest one of these days, and I'm not talking about power naps either."

Ashton was in the middle of his own tasty Caesar when Axel entered with his typical expression and words that Ashton hoped were for the nurse - though the slightest tinge of red crossed those cheeks. He did try to hide it by taking a hasty gulp of apple juice and turning his head to the side a little bit, though. Probably unsuccessfully.

"Y-yeah, um. It's my duty, I guess," Ashton said shyly. "I'm one of the only people here who both can use a sword and has them to boot, so I have to stay active during the nights. But you look like you're gonna be pretty busy soon like me. Maybe, um, we can work on stuff together?" His smile was hopeful.

Although his roommate was probably right. Ashton had been pushing himself far too hard for pretty much the entire time he was here. Emotional stress aside - of which there was plenty - his physical stress was beginning to reach its limit. All of that combined was starting to make Ashton wonder if he wasn't going crazy more often than not these days.

Fortunately for Ashton, Axel had been too busy mangling his own plate to notice his flustered actions, looking up only after he bit into a hefty piece of his steak and swallowed it whole.

"That'll work, especially since we're in the same group and all. Well, not the same group tonight, but it'd be pretty sweet if we got assigned into the same one sometime." After all, Ashton proved his worth beyond the redhead's initial expectations a few nights ago, so why wouldn't he be enthusiastic about the whole ordeal? Though his roommate's words reminded him of something important he had planned to ask, speaking up after he stole another bite.

"Do you mind if I take a look at your maps again?" Axel remembered a good bit of what he'd seen last time, but it was best to refresh his memory if he had any intention to get far tonight, which he did.

Rukia had taken her time getting clean, and the nurses had spent some time fussing over her and bandaging her ribs and hand. So by the time she was finished in the showers it was about time to head to her room for dinner. She was more than happy to do so, having had group therapy during lunch.

When the young nurse asked her if she preferred salad or soup, Rukia opted for soup; it was a comfort food, and she needed that right now. Mustering up a sweet smile, she bid the nurse good night, and waited quietly until the woman left.

Brushing her hair back away from her face, Rukia double-checked that Renji's katana was still where she'd left it, then sat down to eat. The steak smelled good, as did the soup, so she dug in.

Kairi felt stupid. How could she have slept half of the day away? She had missed showering too, which was an even lower blow. Running a hand through her hair, she muttered something about how gross she felt before nodding to the nurse about whatever she had just said. Whoops.

The steak looked kind of gross - she wasn’t really that into meat … she liked fruits more - so she quickly chose a salad to go with it. Reaching the room, she strode in in silence, looking to Rukia with a soft smile before waving goodbye to her nurse.

“Long time no talk, huh?” came Kairi’s hushed greeting, her eyes looking to the ground. When she finally looked up, her eyes caught upon Rukia’s bandaged hand, and her eyes widened in shock. Running to the girl’s side, she didn’t touch her, simply looked. “Oh! Are you all right? What happened to you...?”

Rukia looked up, hurriedly chewing the piece of steak in her mouth as Kairi greeted her. The young girl looked well-rested, at least, which was more than Rukia could say for herself. She paled a little at Kairi's question, but took a moment to answer so that she wouldn't be speaking with a full mouth.

"Oh, this is nothing. Really, the nurses bandaged it more than necessary." Time to change the topic. "But more importantly, how are you??" There was real concern in Rukia's eyes as she turned more toward the other girl. "I heard you were hurt last night"

“Me?” Kairi repeated, her eyes growing hard and cold. A sad smile crossed her lips then; it made her feel horrible to know that she had worried Rukia. Then again, she felt bad that she made anyone worry. “Yes. I was … taken for experimentation last night.” Her voice fell low then, and she turned her eyes away from her roommate for a moment before returning to look at her.

“I guess they knocked me out or something, and I woke up on an operating table.” She knew Rukia would want to know, so she told her straight out. “They injected darkness into my heart with a needle. I don’t think my body has accepted it yet though, because … well, everything I touch, or every movement makes it feels like there’s a fire burning me from the inside out.” At this point, she lifted her hand and ran it through her hair as if it were nothing. “But I’m getting used to it, so don’t worry.”

She hadn't appreciated being forced to move when she was so comfortable in the Games Room, but the nurses just wouldn't take no for an answer. Once back in her room, Rangiku sighed softly and flopped down on her bed. For once, the other bed was empty suggesting that her roommate was awake finally.

The meal was delivered and she pulled the tray onto her lap, starting in on the food. She hadn't eaten as much as she'd have liked during the day. Lunch and breakfast had been distracting, although she'd met a couple more people.

Walking into the cafeteria, Elphaba was surprised to see it quite empty. A nurse came up quietly beside her, and mentioned that dinner was in the rooms. She took Elphaba gently by the arm, her touch gentle, though the grip was iron-hard, and nearly as cold. Elphaba muttered responses to the nurse's inquiries about dinner, and after gently refusing the steak a few times, begrudgingly accepted that the nurse would not take no for an answer. Perhaps her mysterious roommate would want it.

Arriving at the room, Elphaba was startled to see another individual in the room. She'd seen the girl around during the day, but with so many others around, Elphaba hadn't seen the need to waste time trying to find her roommate.

The nurse left her just inside the door, closing it with a small click. Elphaba stood, rather stiffly, and coughed shortly to get the girl's attention.

"I am Elphaba, and whom might you be?"

Rangiku looked up when the door opened, finally getting a good look at her roommate. Seemed a little stern maybe, but Rangiku could deal with that. The shinigami set her tray aside and stood, offering the other woman a polite bow and a cheerful smile.

"Matsumoto Rangiku. Rangiku is fine. Pleased to meet you."
