Day 60: Recreational Field (Third Shift)

Dec 07, 2011 16:07

It was definitely a good thing that Tear had tracked him down, seeing how she'd had a wealth of interesting information for him. Granted, a lot of it he could have guessed himself, especially the details about Landel's capabilities, but it was always good to have it confirmed by a trustworthy source ( Read more... )

Unsurprisingly, after Chipp spent the whole morning sleeping, he had recovered a little bit of his energy. A little bit because he was now ravenously hungry, which was the only reason he took the brown bagged lunch offered to him without complaint. When a nurse asked him where he wanted to go, his choice was obvious ( ... )

After being unceremoniously lifted off the floor and plopped back into the wheelchair, the nurse made a suggestion that actually got Rainbow's hopes up: going outside for some fresh air. She hadn't been able to keep back the whoop of approval that came after that. If there was any way she could get her bearings back and find a way to escape, it was going to be by heading outside. She didn't even mind that the nurse made her put a jacket on before taking her out because YEAH OUTSIDE, BABY!

There was something weird about the outside when they got there, though, and that was, well, the lack of weirdness. Humans everywhere aside, the Rec Field looked downright normal. The grass was green, the clouds were white, and there wasn't a drop of chocolate rain to be seen. If Discord was around (and he had to be), he sure had gotten over some of his changes fast. Was the whole human thing really that much more fun to him? Probably. I bet he's laughing his tailfeathers off somewhere right now while we all deal with this, Rainbow thought, ( ... )

Normally, Chipp wouldn't have paid too much attention to his fellow patients, not out of spite but because he was too busy focusing on more important things like getting the hell out of here and kicking ass. However, a girl nearby managed to catch his attention and keep it, which was truly an admirable feat. It was really hard to ignore the crazy rainbow hair, but it was harder still for him to ignore her attempts at walking. Was she someone who was just getting out of her wheelchair? Simply by observing her, it was like she never walked before in her life.

Damn, was this place that kind of hospital now? Even so, how could they just leave a girl like that to learn how to do it by herself?! She needed training. And there was someone in this place who was completely willing to train her and get her up off the ground and running in no time. He couldn't call himself someone worthy of being President if he didn't help, right? Right! Chipp wasted no more time, walking over to where the girl was crouching down and stuck out his hand for her ( ... )

"Huh?" Rainbow glanced up. It was the gray-haired human, and he was trying to help her up. Her first instinct? "I don't need help! I can do this myself," she answered, shaking her head and ignoring the extended hand. She knew she could do this, and the less she had to get bogged down by the weirdos here, the better.

Her knees were still sore after hitting the ground, though, and her legs were tingling from being pushed so hard so suddenly. It didn't feel like she couldn't get up, but it did feel like it was going to take longer to get out of her crouch than she would've liked. So, grudgingly, Rainbow spoke up again after a moment of silence. "...Okay maybe just help me get up, but then I'm good."

"No way, chocolate cake!" This certainly picked up his spirits. Too bad he was also being forcibly held here against his will. Life was just not made to be winnable. Really good food everyday or freedom; you never got both. Taking his first bite out of the dense confectionery, the young man savored it as he chewed ever so slowly. He was pretty sure his green eyes dilated from the sensory overload he was suddenly feeling. Even if he wanted to be depressed, the amount of energy coursing through his veins wouldn't allow it ( ... )

Guy had made it around the field once by the time that he heard Luke calling out for him, though his friend's voice was enough to get him to stop in his tracks. While it was definitely cold out, taking a brisk walk had gotten his blood flowing, so he wasn't too bothered by it ( ... )

"You talked with Tear today?" Well, at least he knew she was alright--Not that he thought anything less from her! She wasn't weak or anything and he wouldn't have let anything... happen... But it was natural to worry about a friend! Looking at the bulletin earlier, Luke thought of asking her personally, but if Guy or Anise saw the message, they could have gotten the wrong idea.

"Yeah, everything went... fine," he confirmed with a reassuring smile. Hopefully it wasn't overly re-assuring. Guy knew him too well to let bullshit slip under his radar. "Oh, and thanks for that sword again! It came in real handy!" He was still alive, so he had to assume it had at the very least. Augh, this whole discussion and side-stepping was hurting his head.

The change in subject was jumped on like a monster on a lone caravan. "Uh, yeah, Anise's been telling me about all of... this." He waved a hand around his surroundings, much to his chagrin. "Apparently, I picked the best time to show up now that there's actual, you know, food. I dunno how you put ( ... )

In response to Luke's first question, Guy only nodded. It was good that he had managed to check up with both of them, though in both cases they had been the ones to find him. Now it was just Natalia who was being scarce, which Guy couldn't help but worry about. Still, she'd seemingly disappeared once and then it had turned out that she was fine, so he wasn't going to jump to conclusions this time ( ... )

Hearing about this new schedule change, Ippo's first thought was for the recreational field. Quietly, he grabbed his nurse's attention, the same one he had met his first day here, and asked if that would be acceptable ( ... )

Jesse had spent his time in the Sun Room alone. Sure, he'd wandered over to check out the bulletin board thing once or twice, but he found himself too utterly distracted and antsy to socialize. It was good to have other people around, though -- he didn't want to be alone, he didn't want to have to face this alone. Woody's warnings, just before their nurses came to drag them away at breakfast, were sitting heavily at the front of his mind, and he was left more confused than enlightened about Landel's than ever.

Fuck, he just wasn't smart enough to figure this one out on his own. There had to be some kind of explanation, but he still couldn't figure out why innocent people were stuck here too. When his nurse scolded him about ignoring breakfast and then ignoring his sacked lunch Jesse had tried to ask her, only to be given the evasive sort of answers he should've expected after the explanation he received about the institute during the day ( ... )

With one last swing at the liver of his poor, invisible opponent, Ippo realized he now had an audience of one. "Oh--Ah--! It's you! S-Sorry, I don't think I ever got your name. I'm glad to see you're okay too! That was... a weird night?" He laughed awkwardly and it quickly dried up into a sad, resigned sigh ( ... )

Potentially dangerous, but fidgety as hell. That was a weird combination. Jesse found it difficult to get a word in edgewise at first and settled for watching Mack go on until he ran out of steam. God, but he wanted so badly to do something with his hands -- it was a bad habit, and when he didn't have anything at all to hit up sometimes he would just pick his cuticles raw. Especially in situations like this where there were plenty of reasons to be freaked out ( ... )

Every time the intercom blared its message, Saber grimaced. This Head Doctor, their jailer, hid safely all the while taunting the mass of people he'd no doubt used extensive sorcery to imprison. Such cowardice nearly made her ill, and as a result she opted for a bit of fresh air during this "free" shift. With her prepared rations in hand, she stepped out onto the field, appreciating the feel of the sun spilling directly over her body even in such a place.

There weren't many patients outside just yet, so the Servant took to walking the grounds that were open to her, picking off a piece of the lunch provided to her as she walked. For once, it seemed, she was took preoccupied with her own thoughts to inhale a meal. Much as she tried to keep her expression neutral, it was difficult not to let a troubled look surface the more she mulled over her conversation with Yomi.

The air was cool and bracing. Taura stretched and walked out over the field, letting the sun warm her face.

She could try to organize something -- or go for a run -- but this body didn't heal quite as quickly. She'd felt better the day after being in a minor shuttle crash. And the insides of her lips were still kind of shredded. Breakfast had gone down without noticing the pain, but she'd eaten enough that lunch seemed less crucial.

She wasn't the only one out on the field, though. A young woman was brooding her way around the same edge of the field that Taura was walking. Or at least if it was one of her friends it would be brooding -- maybe she was just shy. Couldn't hurt to ask.

"Hey. Everything all right over there?"

Saber paused, stopping as she heard another woman's voice call out to her. At first she wasn't sure what she'd done to warrant another's concern. It was only when she noticed how stiff she was that the Servant realized her mistake and allowed both her posture and expression to become more neutral. It wouldn't do to make such an example of herself here. Now, more than ever, she needed to recapture the kingly presence she had once worked so hard to attain.

"I am fine," Saber answered, her voice firm but not abrasive. It was hard to maintain a regal bearing in such an outfit, but she managed to square her shoulders and keep her chin up. "You need not be troubled on my behalf. I am simply trying to adjust to my current surroundings." A fair statement, one even her jailers probably would've considered appropriate.

"Doing better than most of the people here, then." That was going out on a limb, but Taura was learning. It was easier to learn how to get to know new people when they didn't run away screaming from an accidental fang-filled smile.

"At least it's a nice day. I've been on too many ships and stations. Weather still makes me nervous." Even on Jackson's Whole, they hadn't exactly been allowed to go outside, much. Not at all, once they'd gotten too big to pass for adults, which had been half a lifetime ago. Literally.

Talking about the weather was safe, right? She didn't actually want to make the woman angry. Just let her know she didn't have to be so on-edge as to accidentally cut people she might need as allies.

It was just one strange thing after another today, but Celty was at least thankful that one of those things was getting food instead of a pink substitute. Even if said food did come in a bag once Lunch rolled around ( ... )

While his day hadn't been very interesting so far, the events of last night more than made up for it, Claire decided. The basement! He'd been whisked off back into his room before he'd had enough time to explore, but, after a bit of a tantrum that involved a rather distressed nurse (she'd even threatened calling orderlies on him if he didn't get up right now and stop destroying random property), he'd realized he could just go there again tonight. If he just found the pink-haired girl, Miss Utena, again, it'd be fine, right? Their dark-haired companion had been annoying, but in the end, Claire had found the group easy enough to get along with. As long as they didn't pull him back and went where he wished, anyway ( ... )

By the time she reached close to the branches by the wall, Celty was feeling less aggravated by thinking about Shinra and more relieved that she at least had his stupid memories to fall back on. It was better to have some memories than none at all, after all. And if she were to be more honest with herself, he memories of Shinra really weren't all that bad.

Hey, I know you!

A smile she hadn't intended escaped her face as she turned about to find a red-head coming up behind her. She blinked at him, trying herself to remember where they'd met since she also thought she knew him. In this place it was always so hard to keep up with all whos and whens and whats... but she didn't want to be rude. "Ah, yes? Hello."

It definitely was a pretty face he knew, Claire thought when she turned to face him. He just really couldn't remember from where. Well, it had to be someone he'd met at the Institute, right? Maybe from the past few days?

...

... Mop! Or something related to a mop! And cleaning, maybe. Cleaning? When had that happened? Ah, well, the important part was that he knew this lady and she was now going to be his conversation partner.

"Hi," he greeted again. "I don't remember when and how I met you, but I recognized you! I was wondering why you were yelling at the air. It seemed kind of strange!"
