[Coming from
here.]Daemon slipped from the hallway and into the stairwell, starting the climb to the second floor. His gaze searched the shadows and he'd made no more than three steps up when he went carefully still, holding up a hand to halt Renji as well. The chittering came from above their heads, quiet but definitely there, the sound familiar

"Bit of variety for you here, Threepwood," murmured Javert wryly as they moved into the stairwell proper. "Had enough of exploded cat; spider ought to be positively refreshing in comparison, oughtn't it?
"Frankly," he continued, scanning the stairs ahead, "I'm not certain we'll be needed upstairs. That said, Mlle. Skye was of the opinion that we search the halls as a precaution, and I must say I agree with her."

"Whoa," That was a lot of blood. Goku's eyes dragged up and down every wall and surface of the stairwell. "Someone musta killed a dinosaur." How else could you explain that much meat and gore all over the place? What a waste of a good meal, too!
It was hard to concentrate on the correct scent what with all this other bodily fluid everywhere, but unlike most nights here, his nose was much more keen. He felt just like his old self again tonight!

She took the stairs three at a time, bouncing past Goku and then holding the door for him.

After introductions, Ema gave a small wave as she squinted up at the much-taller man as if to try and make out more than a vague silhouette in the dark. Scientifically speaking, it didn't actually help at all, but the behavior was almost automatic. "It's nice to meet you, Mr. Threepwood." If it weren't for all the gore everywhere, she would have started asking him questions, starting with his profession. A pirate seemed like an odd companion for an inspector. Also, he didn't look like any pirate she'd ever heard of. Aren't pirates supposed to be meaner? And what was this about being able to hold everything in a pair of pants? Wasn't that scientifically impossible ( ... )

The stairwell looked like a disaster zone, a mix of burned and sliced spiders and blood. Lots of blood. Not all of it was monster, either, although she didn't mention that to her companions as she held the door open and waited for them to join her.
Rose didn't really have any way of explaining how she could tell the difference, after all...

The stairwell Rose led them to seemed a battlefield as well, corpses and blood decorating the walls and floor. It was unrealistic to think that a few prisoners hadn't met their end here, but Saber was used to such thoughts. Better to assume and prepare for the worst. Her thoughts went out to those who might have fought and died in this place.
"I shall cover you, Rose," Saber said quietly, hoping that the other woman would trust her to a degree.

Given the skills both of the others had just displayed, Yomi was dimly surprised by the interest in protecting one another. Rose jumped into the elder sister role without hesitation, and the blonde called Saber did nothing to correct her. That just left Yomi, Yomi who for some reason or another was still going unnoticed.
With her mind and body back, she was twice the threat of any low level spectre, and yet there she was, following them through the blood-splattered corridors. It was enough to ignite a light in her eyes--laughter, from a secret place they couldn’t see.
“Someone’s been enjoying having fun stretching their muscles,” she commented over the state of the stairwell, voice bouncing off the narrow walls. “I’ll watch the rear, if you insist.”
Which she wouldn’t actually do, but it was the thing to say, and Yomi was willing to play along.
