He'd been looking for something out of the ordinary. It seemed he had found it.
Judging from the noise levels, the night was still young, but it already seemed as if a small battle had been fought in this hall. Blood and viscera covered the better part of the floor, and Javert grimaced as his boots slid on something wet and sticky. One of the mutilated corpses was just barely recognizable as a cat.
Impossible to tell what had gone on here. It was possible there was something large loose in the institute--something worse than the usual fare. But that was unlikely; there would have been other signs. More besides a few dead animals.
Javert frowned, but quickened his steps. He'd get to the bottom of it after he found Mlle. Skye.
