Javert's suspicion only increased as he entered the main hall. There was nothing clearly out of order here--nothing so obvious as that--but he couldn't shake the feeling that something had changed. Instinct had served him well for years; it did so now.
Something caught his eye as he headed for the women's block--something the size of a small dog, scurrying away into the dark. Another one of the creatures? Perhaps that was it; there had been four of them in the last hallway, and it was unlike them to attack so openly.
His frown deepened as he rounded the corner. Curious.
