Night 57: East Hall

[from here]Behind the door was another hallway -- that made sense, since they were right below the main hall of the first floor, or very, very close. Taura jogged down it, to the far end ( Read more... )

"Eh?" Goku followed after Taura--well, more accurately, the strange stone she held in her hand. It had given off an unworldly glow, and so the monkey boy related it to the only thing plausible in his world. "Hey, hey! Is that a dragon ball?" he asked around a hunk of cold, raw meat in his mouth. If it were one of the legendary balls, they would all be one more closer to wishing a way out of this boring place! No matter how much opportunity there was for fighting, the food didn't make up for it. He couldn't exactly kick butt if he was constantly hungry.

Taura was obviously busy making sure they didn't run into a fight unprepared, but Goku had never been much for etiquette. "Can I look at it?" He wasn't used to being refused, so he stuck a sticky hand up without any prompting.

There was a look of surprise on Rita's face when Taura produced the magic stone and used it on her, but it soon passed. It made sense to test the spell now, rather than risk having it fail at a critical moment. When the spell was done, she brought the finger to her mouth and sucked the blood off the tip. When she pulled it away, she saw that the skin beneath was completely healed. Good as new ( ... )

"Look? Yeah." Taura held up the small stone, which caught what little light was down there and bent it into tiny green spots on the walls. "Zack called it a materia, and it comes from his home. His and Cissnei's." Taura looked at the stone, her face suddenly serious. "She was my roommate." Past tense explained the seriousness. "We ended up on her home planet the night the doors turned into wormholes, but she didn't come back. Just this."

Taura didn't know if Cissnei'd had the stone before that night; she liked to think maybe she'd sent it back, since she hadn't been able to keep her promise to send a rescue team. At least not yet.

Until then, they'd have to make their own luck.
