Night 53: Morgue

Dec 20, 2010 21:59

[ From here.Ludwig had... not anticipated anything like this. The instant after he and John broke through the door, a rush of cool air met them. The room was frigid, and as Ludwig led the way in, he knew exactly where they were. Weighing stations, beds, tables... and worst of all, those refrigerated cabinets in the walls. This was a morgue, and it ( Read more... )

There were a great many things in John's life -- even before he arrived at Landel's -- that didn't make much sense to him. Having a brilliant, eccentric, and sometimes just plain mad detective for a flatmate seemed to have that effect. But he kept hoping ( ... )

Of course, the room didn't remain empty for long. As Ludwig continued to search, he saw two others coming in as well- one dark-haired, the other less so but with quite the intensity in his eyes as he came in. And from the way he handled those surgical gloves, a doctor of some sort ( ... )

Everyone seemed to take the blood -- there was no mistaking it for anything else once John had gotten a look at it -- in stride. Those reactions, more than anything else, told John that this was a more or less ordinary thing for Landel's at night.

Well, okay. If that's what it was like, John could deal with that. It wasn't as though he had a lot of other options.

So he stared up at the ceiling and thought things through, methodically. It wasn't a small amount of blood -- and for it to have seeped through the ceiling, there must be more that they couldn't see. Whatever its source, it wasn't likely to be something alive. (Or at least not something still alive.) With what he knew of this place, it didn't seem impossible that a patient might have come to serious harm, hurt or killed by... well... whatever they were ( ... )

The doctor on the table knocked on the ceiling, to which there was no answering sound or the different sound of a body. Perhaps Ludwig had been wrong after all... he wasn't afraid to admit that. But that still begged the question of where the blood was coming from. It had to be from somewhere, and this was quite the large amount to have oozing through the ceiling ( ... )

((From here.))Spock proceeded into the next room after the pair of patients who went before them. Although he was certain they had their own reasons for coming this way, Spock had no issue with sharing the area with others so long as they all remained vigilant ( ... )

The radio hadn't said too much, but it had confirmed that those shadows weren't some strange but native life form. Something artificial (an experiment?), which was just another hint about how advanced this place's technology really was. Other than that, he hadn't said anything else illuminating. The radio clicked off right as two more patients showed up behind them. McCoy moved aside for them absently as he tucked the radio away. For being a rebel, one who had probably been here longer than they had, McCoy had to wonder why he was going to them for any answers. Out of the three parties here, the patients were the ones in the dark. They didn't really know who this Head Doctor was, what this place was, who these rebels were or what the nature of the conflict was. Hell, they didn't even know how they were pulled here.

Blind leading the blind here? he thought. He'd hoped that at least these rebels would know something more about what was going on ( ... )

Spock followed after McCoy, keeping his flashlight steady as the doctor opened up his first aid kit and prepared to examine the substance on the ceiling. All senses were on alert as he watched over him. It was possible this was some sort of trap, but it was also their duty to investigate any abnormalities they came across during their nightly explorations. They would need to remain cautious and back away at the first sign of danger. Even so, however, the Vulcan tightened his grip on his weapon as he observed his colleague.

It appeared the other pair of patients were interested in the liquid as well. One of them went as far as to lend his light, which Spock appreciated.

While he could have asked what he found, Spock chose to let him work in silence for the moment. There was no use in making more noise than necessary, particularly if this was the result of a hostile creature.

McCoy was balanced somewhat precariously on the table as he brushed the ceiling once. Just as he thought. Smelled heavily of iron, same consistency, same color as human blood. He squinted up at the large patch of it. The ceiling was made of plaster, and from the looks of it, wasn't slapped up any time soon. That made the chances of someone recently dumping a body unlikely ( ... )

[And timeskipping from here]

The door had been cleared for them, so Gant knew someone had already been here before. Of course, that went without saying. The last door had been the same, after all. However, the stillness was rather creepy, more so here than the other rooms.

Maybe it was the chill in the air, but Gant could swear there was something more to this room. It was... there! Those cabinets along the wall. Something about them was just...

"Don't suppose you know what this room is too, eh, Xemmers?" Gant's voice came out no louder than a whisper. He had a sinking feeling about this one. Oh, that he did.

Had Xemnas been bothered by the sudden chill within this room, he did not show it. He spared the room a brief glance, noting its lack of presences be it harmful or otherwise, before moving towards one of the cabinets without so much as a pause ( ... )

Hearing all those questions did make him feel a little silly, but still, this was a mental institution! Did they actually keep their dead residents in a place like this? It had to be for show.

"More that I just want to make sure I'm actually seeing what I'm seeing..." he muttered lamely. Really, where had his spine gone? There were more dangerous things in this place to be afraid of than a morgue. Dead bodies couldn't hurt anyone. Unless they were zombies, and he wasn't going to fall into fearing something like that. Especially when it seemed no corpses were around to begin with. Or that's what he hoped.

He didn't follow behind Xemnas as he checked the cabinets. He instead hung back against the far wall, stifling a yawn. They had been out quite a while tonight. Hopefully morning would come soon. He was starting to ache from holding himself so rigidly through the night.
