Turkey Day and "Twilight"

. . . I'll leave the audience to decide if there's an unintentional irony to that title or not. ;)

Anyway, posting from my Mom's compter while she makes pumpkin pie (yay!); she only has Safari, which doesn't allow Rich Text formatting on ElJay, so I'm gonna be trying to manage cuts'n'stuff entirely in HTML. Wish me luck . . .

Actually, it really was filmed in Forks, according to what I've read.

I'm with you on the "no particular desire to pick it up again" thing. I bought it two years ago (!), read about 2/3 of it on the plane, and then never bothered to open it again. I think WALL-E was probably a good trade, too! :)

Gina says hi--I'm over at the Casino now. :)

Huh -- didn't know Forks was a real place (shows you how much I've been following things; a fangirl I am not . . . except for DW/TW. natch!).

Hello back, to you and Gina both! :D

Well, if it's an accurate book-to-movie translation, more power to 'em. And just cuz I found it dull doesn't mean anything more than that it's my opinion. Clearly, other folks feel differently. :D

Actually, IIRC, the author didn't release that Edward-POV version, at least not until it was leaked to the net somehow and she released it officially as a form of damage control. And then she declared she was taking her toys and gonig home (i.e. not finishing the book in question), though I imagine in the long run she'll cave to fan pressure (and the lure of great wodges of cash). (Sorry if that sounds too rude -- I'm not trying to particularly harsh on her or anything, just being more generally cynical; FWIW, I think the same about JKR and more HP books).

I kinda figured that the super-speed vampire driving was probably the rationale for the apparently instantaneous transition form WA to AZ . . . but since there wasn't even a throwaway sentence of explanation in the movie, it still played as a fairly doofus moment.

i think that the instantaneous transition was a lack of coherent cinematic storytelling more than anything else. i was wondering myself how everyone got there so fast, since no one said anything about teleporation... :D

Chalk up a big negative point for the filmmakers on that one, then.

the movie was filmed entirely in the u.s. - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1099212/locations

forks is indeed near-ish seattle - http://maps.google.com/maps/mm?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=48.070738,-122.871094&spn=2.099612,4.614258&z=7 (hope that works...)

i see we largely agree on twighlight (including the bit about edward coming off as constipated for the first half of the movie), though you are far more eloquent in your review - i'm merely verbose. :)

however, we don't agree on wall-e. speaking of all things creepy, i just got weirded out by it being a dystopian tale of the future disguised as a kid's movie. of course, of all the people i've told that to, i seem to be the only one of that opinion... :D ok, half the people i told didn't know what 'dystopian' meant.

Oh, you're absolutely right -- WALL-E is an odd, dystopian tale. In fact, the sequence at the beginning where Wall-E matter-of-factly scavenges replacement parts from the bodies of his dead compatriots is singularly disturbing . . . but I *like* that aspect.

Hell, kids need a variety of input, IMNSHO, and Wall-E is a lot less traumatic than a bunch of the "classics" kids of my generation were routinely force-fed (Old Yeller, the *original* Bambi and The Red Pony, anyone?), while still getting the point across that maybe everything isn't *entirely* rainbows and puppies.

Then again, I'm not a parent and never intend to be one, so mileages may vary as far as the above opinion goes . . . though I wouldn't be averse to being the Crazy, Bad-Influence Aunt someday. ;)

love the icon. :)

as long as you recognise that it's dystopian, that's cool. it creeps me out when people gush about how cute it was. it was so not a cute movie.

and yes, being the crazy, bad influence aunt does indeed seem like the way to go. :D that is my goal as well, if and when my sibling chooses to reproduce.

Heh -- the icon is a home-made jobbie, seemed to sum up my life pretty well. Plus I adore that screencap of DT . . .

Anyway, I'd argue that at least *parts* of WALL-E are cute; certainly some of the *characters* are adorable . . . which makes the disquieting stuff even more effective in the end, I think.

My genetic bro won't be reproducing anytime soon, either, having about the same ideas on parenting as I do (quite sad, really, from a Darwinian viewpoint -- still, we're taking unsuitable-parent genes out of the pool, so it makes sense . . .). However, since family is where you find it, I have a strong feeling I'll end up as an "adopted" aunt to a some friends' kids, eventually. ;)

I'm going to see Twilight tomorrow with my mom. . .which should be interesting.

And I did get a ride home, it was just a six hour bus ride. . .XD

And just for shits and giggles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dompotjTeIA (disturbingly enough the girl actually sounds like Bella (and it's just friken' hilarious))

Glad you made it home, though it sucks about the bus! You should be getting back in Ashland (or be already there) by now, too . . .

Thanks for the mock-trailer link! I'd seen that before, but I was going to go look for it to email to someone else, so you saved me a trip. It really is hilarious, they did a great job with it. Loved the Hershey bar! XD
