10th LJ Anniversary

Sep 17, 2014 12:39

Basic Account Created on 17 September 2004

10 years ago today, I created my LJ account.
10 and a half years ago, I bought my current car.
I can still drive them both.

Only difference is that my car still takes me where I want to go.

Happy 10th LJ Anniversary, I suppose. Given the state of LJ today, there's not much worth celebrating here anymore.

In any case, this got me thinking about when I first created an account on LJ. I knew it was in 2004, but I'd completely forgotten that it was 25 February 2004. Sure doesn't seem like it's been that long.

Oh no! You forgot to celebrate your 10th LJ-versary. ;-)

But not to be too downbeat about it... I certainly got many things of lasting value from my experiences on LJ, and at the end of the day that matters more than the mechanics of posts and comments or the website's uncertain continuity into the future.

I've been on LJ for over 12.5 years, young'un. Let me tell you a story of the golden days of social media, where people would compose original content using complete sentences while attempting to follow spelling and grammar guidelines of the English language.

I can't do my favorite anymore which are run-on sentences.
Also, I keep wanting to favorite LJ comments. :-P

I guess I kinda fell off once most everybody left, then abandoned when I joined Twitter.

I know that, and you know I know that. So you must just be saying "Hi" or perhaps you want something. Hiya.
Alright then... all you need to do is go to this webpage and click "Follow", then wait maybe a few hours or so. You won't be disappointed with the results.

Well, when you mutually follow/friend/subscribe-to someone else on a blogging site for many years, and then when you both migrate to another blogging-type site on which you are both quite active but refuse to follow/friend them on that new site, then it isn't so much hello as it is goodbye. That isn't necessarily an offense, but it is definitely a rejection, and most likely will be received that way by the average person.

Then, if you send them a cryptic message on some other medium other then the new site on which you are both active, that also isn't so much "hi" as it is underlining the goodbye mentioned in the previous paragraph. But call it what you may.

In future, I suggest that if you only want to say "hi" that you can do so much more efficiently on Twitter as I will receive the message sooner, and it easily comes in under the 140 character limit.

(tongue thoroughly in cheek for that last paragraph ;-)

For some reason I was pretty excited when I finished my first year, but my fifth (mondhasen) just went gliding by without a thought. *snicker* I'm as tired of threatening to give this all up as those on my FL are of hearing me say it ;o)

I wrote my LJ anniversary down on my (physical, paper) calendar months ago so I wouldn't forget it. :-)

I think you are doing the same thing that I am doing. You're not leaving LJ so much as you are only going to use LJ anymore when LJ is the social medium that best fits the message. In my case, that's not going to be very often, but it looks to be about once per month, just as I've been doing...

Happy LJ anniversary! :) I haven't quite made it to 10 years yet, but it looks like it's only a few months away. I never was a big LJ user, even when it was the "in" thing though :)

Hi there! It is a pleasant surprise to see you still around, since you haven't updated in a year. I hope things are going well. :-)
