This 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings' by Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan is good enough that when it shows up on shuffle in July I still listen all the way through (and I am not much of a Christmas carol person.)
Being a die hard fan of both of those groups, I totally agree with you. Also good? Barenaked Ladies "Elf's Lament". And Sarah's entire winter CD is pretty solid.
I don't have that one! Will track it down. As for the Rat Pack...I sort of burned out on that stuff when I lived with my grandparents. While there are certain untouchable classics, I tend to veer away from the group as a whole.
I am giving you that link because it's a live version and has an almost 3 minute intro about angels and the lord and Christmas I think you will enjoy.
The video quality is craptastic and remember it's music no lyrics. But I love it because I swear you can hear the "merry merry christams" and "hark hear the bells" in the music.
Straight No Chaser is brilliant. They also sing Christmas Can-Can, which is addicting, and a version of We Three Kings arranged to the Mission Impossible theme song. Their non-Christmas CD is also a great listen.
I loved the video, though! I'd never SEEN it performed.
Oh oh I love you! :) CHRISTMAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSS. Happiest things on Earth include the Muppet Christmas Carol and the Dead Zone Christmas Episode (which is like the happiest hour of TV ever somehow, I DON'T GET IT).
I haven't switched over to xmas music yet in my head, but I found some random delights on pandora last year! I will find them and share.
Every Christmas Eve, I come home from midnight service, get in my Christmas Snoopy pajamas, and watch Muppet Christmas Carol from bed. I even have the version that doesn't have the looooong and booooring "It was almost looooove..." song.
But please to be sharing music, yes. If you want more recs, I can send some your way. Or I could make you a CeeeDeee of awesomeness.
I love Vienna Teng's The Atheist Christmas Carol. I love all of her songs. I have so many favorites it's ridiculous.
I'm also thrilled to hear you love Straight No Chaser. The original members of the group )who now form most of the professional group) were at Indiana University when I attended. I heard them perform once, though sadly I didn't see them do the 12 Days of Christmas (though I was at IU at the time - I'm so kicking myself now).
I have a ton of Bing Crosby and Mannheim Steamroller and Transiberian Orchestra. For stand alone songs, I love White Christmas by the Drifters, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear by Ella Fitzgerald, Carol of the Bells and Variations on the Kanon by George Winston. I'm going to stop now, or my list will go on forever. :-) I love Christmas music!

Although I love pretty much any song sung by any member of the Rat Pack too.

I recommend just listening to it. :-)
And that is understandable for the Rat Pack.
