Christmas Rarities

Seriously. I'm on a personal record-breaking streak, here. Well, at least record breaking lately.

Today, I was thinking about Christmas music. Now, those of yhou who have known me for awhile know that I adore Christmas. It's really a bit ridiculous how much I love it. I love for the religious meaning, the the family stuff, the presents, the decorations, the over the top craziness, the bad movies - all of it. So I have a sort of ridiculously large collection of Christmas music on my iPod (6.8 hours, but who's counting?). But I always end up thinking: is there more great Christmas out there that I'm missing?

I don't mean classics. I don't even mean popular favorites. I mean personal loves - obscure original songs that rock your socks or really fun new arrangements that always cheer you up. That kind of stuff.

Below are a few of my favorite, all ones I would highly recommend. If you're a fan of Christmas music, I'd love for you to recommend some back.

Gabriel's Message by Sting - It's otherworldly and echo-y and just sort of soothing in a bizarre way.

Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow by Jethro Tull - It's so....jaunty!

Joseph's Lullaby by MercyMe - He's the most under-rated person pretty much ever, and this song is beautiful and sweet and just the right amount of sad.

One More Sleep Til Christmas by Kermit - Um, I love Christmas. I love Muppets. I ADORE Kermit. So yes.

What Do Bad Girls Get? by Joan Osbourne - This is a fun song just from the lyrics, but also because there's something about Joan Osbourne's voice that makes you feel a little like you were bad right along with her when you listen to it.

What Do You See? by Sonya Issacs - First of all, this woman can sing. She's mostly acappella other than some male backup singers. Also, it's just a good song.

The Atheist Christmas Carol by Vienna Teng - It's a lovely melody and sort of nice message that even those who don't necessarily do the God thing can still get something from Christmas.
