I've been saying it for the past couple years, about the U.S. Government dictating the whole digital television thing. All TV must be digital. EVERY television has to be connected to a cable box, or a cable hookup doo-hickey, without it, you cannot receive ANY television signal.

I don't have cable or any sort of receiver set-up, and yet I can watch the major local channels (ABC, CBS, NBC) with over-the-air digital. All I needed was a regular TV antenna, nothing fancy. I can't watch any of the cable networks (AMC, TNT), but that doesn't bother me in the least. That's why the gods invented Blu-Ray!

Of course, I expect one day they'll rescind the over-the-air requirement...

When I went through the '86 Rio Nido flood, we had to have cable to get ANY TV. When the power went out, Comcast brought in a generator to keep the cable up. Which meant nothing since we didn't have a battery operated TV.

Which also didn't mean nothing when the flood exceeded the linesman's estimate and the generator went underwater.

But boy ... what a great time to play around with mud and other esoteric indulges!
