I Told You So!
I've been saying it for the past couple years, about the U.S. Government dictating the whole digital television thing. All TV must be digital. I thought there would be a major problem if there was an emergency. Watching the news tonight, I saw that I was correct. A natural disaster like Hurricane Sally... I mean Sandy :) Our government decided that ALL tv channels had to be broadcast in digital format, no more analog. So, the basic broadcast channels like ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox had to be broadcast digitally. Sooooo... EVERY television has to be connected to a cable box, or a cable hookup doo-hickey, without it, you cannot receive ANY television signal.
You used to be able to buy a cheap TV at Walgreens for $29.99-39.99 and be able to tune it into basic television channels (and is battery powered). Now that is an impossibility. Unless you want to pay for a box/hook-up (but is still electrical).
I was watching the news tonight after the whole Hurricane Sally... Sandy : ) And I watched people being interviewed that did not have any clue as to what was happening. The power is out to something like 6.6 MILLION people, so how is this magical cable box supposed to work? NOBODY has electricity!!! And the damn cable connector needs it to work! Our federal government has said that EVERY TV channel has to be digital, which requires both the sender and the receiver to have electricity. How is the general population supposed to be informed as to what is going on during an EMERGENCY if they don't have electricity and a battery powered device isn't sufficient????
If there was a major earthquake (Odin forbid!) in the Bay Area... how would we know what was happening??? If ALL of us are out of power, what the hell are we supposed to do???
That is what our federal government has mandated though. It just proves to me how deep into the pockets of our REPRESENTATIVES corporations really are. I know the Supreme Court says they are PEOPLE, but how many lives will be lost because of the financial persuasion of certain "People"??????
