1) i picked up my ring in the city on saturday, and dan really likes it. i ordered it without him. i originally was on a research-only mission, but this ring was simple but unique, and matched my one-of-a-kind e-ring amazingly well. and the saleswoman was kind of high-pressure. i ended up caving ( Read more... )

Awesome! I just ordered my save-the-dates...I'm feeling less terrified and more excited again. But yours is coming up a lot sooner than mine, isn't it? That's a great story about your officiant too (o:

i think i saw your post about the save-the-dates. are they from vistaprint? i;m considering using them for our RSVP cards, so let me know how thery work out.

i've been feeling a bit overwhelmed, and it is indeed coming up quick! i think the trick is to chip away at everything, slowly but surely. we want to make our own invites, so i better get on that project quite soon. it was a major stress-factor last week, so i should really do it and get it behind me :)

good luck with everything!

Yes, Vistaprint. Someone commented and told me they came out great for her, so I'm hoping they'll be nice. They certainly were cheap.

We want to make our own invites too but that really does seem like a huge job that I should get started on soon. Eek!

Good luck to you too, I look forward to hearing how you survive it all (o:

we're going to make our invitations but get them printed at OfficeMax. it's kind of ironic that i feel this way, as i'm always so gung-ho about mail related crafts, but i don't want them to be a huge project, and i'd rather have more money to spend on nice booze or take to thailand for the honeymoon. maybe i;m just overwhelmed by all the fancy & expensive wedding invitation options out there, and by the fact that although dan has a lot of ideas for wedding-related things, he does minimal research and decision-making.

i, too, am looking forward to seeing me on the other side of this. let's just say i look forward to boarding the plane to thailand (oh yeah, assuming we get our tickets booked and all that. it's one of the many things on the list)

thanks! i think i'm at the slightly-overwhelmed-with-stuff-that-needs-to-get-done phase, but i'm sure it will pass back over to excitement :)

That's a cool PossibleOfficiant story. It sounds like he would definitely give you a memorable ceremony!

If you go back to wanting to have one of your friends ordained, it's super easy. I actually got ordained (kind of on a whim, but somewhat for the purpose of officiating a friend's wedding) a few years ago.

oh, i know it's easy to get a friend ordained. what's not easy is deciding which friend to ordain. if we had any living and proximal elders, such as grandparents, then we would just have them do it. deciding on a friend has proven much more difficult.

did you end up officiating at your friend's wedding?

She ended up not having a wedding after all, and the only friends I've had get married since then have wanted a religious ceremony and, well, I'm not an actual religious figure. But it's there, just in case!

I would have a tough time picking a friend to officiate at my wedding, too. Was there anyone that you're still in touch with that was instrumental in you and Dan meeting? Because having them officiate might be a good 'full-circle' gesture. Whoever you decide on, I'm sure you two are going to have a really unique ceremony!

well, kerrville (the music festival where we met) was very instrumental in our meeting, and for that reason, many people get married on the ranch. we debated doing that ourselves, but finally decided that kerville is it's own thing, and we don't need to get married there. all fine and good, but that means that many of our kerr/texas friends won't be able to make the trek up to NY. no one particular person stands out as so instrumental in our meeting (haha, dan and i still argue about who it was who officially introduced us. meaning, it's not very memorable, and neither one of us remembers.)

i think a kind but outside party might be the best thing for us, actually. the whole thing will be unique, i'm sure! i'm curious to see how smoothly all of our hodge-podged details will come together.

That's so cool about the officiant! I hope it works out. It's great when something happens so serendipitously like that.
