Can't fall asleep, despite being tired, so I guess I'll blog. And eat one and a half avocados.

I titled this post, "Resolutions...", because I'll show how a couple of earlier outstanding matters were completed, but now that I think about it, that's also the word one uses at the beginning of the year to start making changes, so... which is it ( Read more... )

I could be wrong (it happens!) but I'm pretty sure they don't "craft" soft contacts just for you. I believe that the lensmakers just make every conceivable prescription and mass-produce.

Source: I also have astigmatism, and never once has any optician told me that they'd have to custom make my lenses. They come in a box from a company. I've been wearing soft contacts off and on since 1984. (And yes, one of my lenses is weighted, but I've never really spent much time thinking about how it rotates.)

Yeah, perhaps "craft" wasn't exactly the right word. :-) I certainly believe that standard lenses are mass-produced. When a single lens has two different prescriptions, you (potentially) square the number of combinations, although in reality, I'm sure that most of the differences are still close to each other, and so it's not going to be completely n2. Thus, what likely happens is that there's one (or only a few) locations that mass-produces these less-common lenses, distributing them over a larger population. A niche of a niche, if you will.
