Just mailed my dissertation director a provisional outline for my prospectus: four pages that contain the bare bones of the ideas I've been developing for literally years now. Keep your fingers crossed that it's workable, and that he doesn't send it back with a comment of THIS IS THE ACADEMIC EQUIVALENT OF MY FIVE YEAR OLD'S FINGERPAINTING

and I'm right there with you on the flakiness...I was fine..but then I had four days off from work and it went completely out the window.
