This is a list of "cool" bookshelvesGreat! Except, er, I like books. Which means they are pretty much all (apart from the stairs, which are awesome) things I would never even consider having because they would either damage the books or just no hold enough. It pretty much sums up what I don't like about modern design: it's mostly impractical. I ( Read more... )

I like the extreme sublimation of form to function and vice versa.

The middle ground isn't nearly as appealing.

Form follows function is what I'm all about. But then you know about my passionate love for the Arts and Crafts movement and Modernism..

i like 13, and 15, although i wouldn't fill it with rainbow coloured books.

But yeah, i like mine to hold as many as possible too. I like the style of ikea's maarkor (sp?) but don't like that you can't buy extra shelves for them, so you get a lot of wasted space.

No, see, the point of 15 is to organise your books by colour! Because that's SO COOL!!1! People who do that just make me wonder whether they bought the books just for decoration, and if that's the case I'd quite like to find them and rescue the poor books from their illiterate owners..

ahh, i guess i'm a luddite then - i organise mine by series and author, not by colour :)

I would organise mine by broad subject then author (alphabetical) then probably series by publication date, but I would have to organise the best part of a thousand books and I really, really can't be arsed. ;) At the moment I at least try to keep books by a single author together, but I'm fighting a losing battle.

I agree. Bookcases should be rendered invisible by the books that are on them.

Oh, and I'm with you on the stairs, too.

Books are more important than how they are displayed, to me.

What I really want are stairs like these.

Those are great. But I wonder what goes in the rest of the space under the stairs ?

I like to think the same on the other side, set into the wall... Or some kind of recessed space, anyway.

There is a gold plated alessi lemon squeezer.

If you use it to squeeze lemons the gold plating erodes.

I think that is some kind of important proverb for this modern age.

That doesn't surprise me in the least.

i do like the pulse and equation ones, but more likely to use them for something else rather than books, they wouldn't hold many.

That first one scares me, how are you supposed to get into the inner sides?
