Re: writing sex scenes, when I have to choose between purple prose and vulgarities, I tend to pick the vulgarities because they sound less silly. Of course it really depends on whether the POV character would use such a word. One of my pet peeves with romance novels is sex scenes from male POVs that use coy metaphors or flowery language.
