I love the robin cake; and you can hardly do better than chocolate sponge, IMO! Sorry to hear that your birthday wasn't what you had hoped for, but the presents sound fabulous (I love Nadiya, too), and in the hopefully not too distant future you can still celebrate. After all, as the Doctor likes to say, time isn't a linear thing. :)
Thank you. In part the robin was also inspired by what fondant colours I had available :)
I am fine with celebrating sometime in the future - the bread rolls and some savoury nibbles are now all in the freezer, along with some small cakes, and so a nice afternoon, with a big tea, can be arranged at short notice!
We have all got used to things being disrupted by covid by now, haven't we? I have put much of the food designed for a 'buffet tea' into the freezer and we will enjoy it at some point in the future!
I liked the idea of robins - then decided one fat one was the easiest way to go!!
I . . . would also have felt bad about cutting the robin down the middle. :)
We all tested before going to visit fufaraw, and P. and I made sure we'd packed masks. Though I do sometimes think of Mira Grant's Newsflesh series, with all of it . . . .
There might be a bit of coveting here re: your new scone book.
Thank you! I did feel cruel halving the robin. Although perhaps better than cutting off a wing, then a foot...
I have masks in pockets and bags - and hardly ever wear one these days; we have reached the point where we more or less ignore covid and hope for the best, to be honest.
As for the scone book - she has a blog! It is wonderful and I think it is going to be my comfort reading for ages to come.
We really do seem to have reached the point where we treat covid a bit like a bad cold here, but make a point of staying away from others, if positive, just in case.
It was a nice day - and we will get together for a feast some other time.

I'd just remembered about that cake, when I saw someone else's post :)
Happy unbirthday!

And thank you - both for the unbirthday wishes and, again, the cake.
