An end to Christmas

Jan 06, 2021 21:03

D-d news first; the house move has been put on hold - it may well wait until after the 3 week lockdown. The 4 of them are fine with this although NYK1 complains so much of his stuff is in boxes already that he can hardly move in his room :) They called here this evening, before lockdown starts at 12MN, to leave some of their Lego ships as these ( Read more... )

What a shame about the move. I would have thought it could have been done safely (you can still move house here!), but hopefully it won’t be too long to wait.

The removal guys are nor essential workers - and can't really maintain 2m between themselves at all time even if they were, I guess. Some sales went ahead in our first lockdown by people leaving keys under plant pots and so on - but only those people who were moving themselves for the first 4 weeks.

They expect it will be at the end of lockdown - although if it is possible to do it before they would go for it.

It's kind of sad that they can't move right now though one would think it would be ok to do so. Better safe.

People here panic buy also. We are under threat of another lockdown and I expect that tomorrow will see loo rolls fly off the shelves. People indeed.

I have quite a few glass ornaments as well. I know just what you mean by how carefully they have to be packed. I've never done a photo series of my glass...next time.
:)

I especially love the second last one. How intricate and elegant it is!

I think it is in part because people here need to physically sign things whilst being witnessed - which is difficult if the advocates are all working remotely, and then the removal men are not considered essential workers. But it may be possible to organise something before the end of the 3 weeks. And if it isn't they are all pretty stoical about it.

There is a sort of meditative air to wrapping all the decorations - and what pleasure to unwrap them in December and greet each like an old friend :) That tiny glass Nativity is fascinating, isn't it? It was a gift some 10 years or so ago from my late friend Dorothy from Skye.

Yes, it would be complicated...

I thought it was a Nativity! How lovely is that?

And yes, I greet all my ornaments like old friends every year. I'll start the packing up tomorrow. First the big Nativity and then the tree...which makes me sad. I feel it hasn't been here long enough this season. My blue light tree will stay all year.

Shame about the move but at least when it comes they will be extra organised.

Pretty ornaments. We took all our ours down yesterday and they went up into our attic today. We seem to have acquired rather more decorations than we had previously so fitting them back up into the attic took rather longer than anticipated!

They are pretty stoical about the delay to the move. Being locked don in the larger house, with lots of time to unpack, would have been much better but nothing seems to go easily for them.

It is surprising how the ornaments seem to breed each year whilst out of the packaging!

The ornaments are gorgeous! And good luck with the lockdown. I had really hoped we wouldn't get a bonus week (or more) of 2020.

There is a sense of "You call that year? This is a year..." about the first week of 2021.

I have been collecting the glass ornaments for a good 20 years or so now - I do love them.

We are all resigned to lockdown, but hopeful that it will work.

I imagine it's pretty frustrating - wedding postponed, now move postponed. The wedding was lovely when it happened though and I hope that when they get to move everything goes smoothly.

Your glass ornaments are very pretty!

The big question with regard to shopping - will all the shelves be empty of toilet paper again?

I think they are pretty resigned to delaying the move. The chances of actually having been able to marry, and house-hunt physically not just on-line, and so on have been so much better here than in much of the world - but another week would have been so much better :(

I have been collecting my glass ornaments for a long time - the twisted, frosted, one was the very first and it is now over 20 years old.

And, honestly, people dashed into the shops at the first hint of the lookdown and went mad - bread, toilet paper, almost anything. It was so silly because last time the shops were fine, once they got over the devastating panic buying of the first couple of days. I will have to go to shop in a day or two as we will be out of bread, and cheese and so on, but I'm hoping they will have restocked by then!
