Two things to amuse...

Thing number one - this was on Amazon's list of recommendations for me this morning.

Do you think it might just possibly have started its life as fanfic? :)

I'm almost tempted to buy it to see if I recognise it, and how well (to quote S2C about a different book) the serial numbers might have been rubbed off!

Thing number two - when our island was quite a major holiday destination people often used to ask 'but what do you do in the winter?' and we would tell them we made our own entertainment - and had a lot of fun.

This is still the case. And, sometimes, we do things a little differently on small islands when compared with cities. This is D-d's description of a gig she went to with, with the NYM, at the weekend...

Geoff, who is a fellow member of staff at her workplace, is a musician. He plays acoustic sets and is quite popular at many of the local venues. He was doing the last gig of his 'Round the Island Tour' which had taken him, purposely, to many of the small village halls. He, and his band, would take flyers to the houses in the parish during the week before and then prepare for the gig. These preparations are somewhat different to the norm.

This gig was in Ballaugh Village Hall, seating capacity about 80, and before the gig started "Geoff served all the audience with his homemade soup and bread to make sure they were nice and warm - followed by some nice lemon drizzle cake made by the bass player."

You never get that at the NEC!
