The vagaries of fannish desire

Mar 22, 2010 23:03

Work has been really busy for about the last seven weeks, to the point that I haven't really had much mental energy for thinking about my own creative work, either non-fannish or fannish ( Read more... )

Hey there! I know it's not on your list of fandoms, and I don't know whether you read rpf, but if you do, your description of what you're looking for brought a story instantly to mind one of my top fave stories in the fandom I'm in now, and actually one of my top faves *ever*. It's Apples Are Not the Only Fruit by bexless, and it's super sweet and light but with some small amount of angst that just makes the ending the sweeter. Just beautifully written, and really, totally no canon knowledge required... an au, but not too far off from reality. It just seemed like something you might enjoy. A lot. It has apple pie! And fruit festivals! It's kind of a perfect length, too -- long enough to be substantive, short enough to read in one sitting if you want. And just... well, try it, if you want. <333 Let me know what you think if you do, if you want. (Oh! The pairing is adam/kris). (p.s. if you get interested in more of this pairing, let me know. Bwahaha).

That is such a cute story. I fell in love with American Idol RPF *hard* and read a ton of it for a few months. Now, I barely read it anymore except for a couple awesome authors. My fannish love can be so fickle.

I totally rec anything by jerakeen.

"Just a Glance Away" is a good one.

Melt Into Time by butterfly is a pretty amazing time travel story, but I'm not sure how accessible it would be.

Hi! There are a lot of new things that're awesome, too... I don't know if you're interested in coming back. You could check my Delicious tags if you are, and I've posted a bunch of recs on my lj recently also.:)

Come on over to Dean/Castiel - the water's ... holy. *g*

As for recs, I did a month of exclusively Dean/Cas for crack_van in September. These will give you a place to start: Dean/Cas recs

Plus, I've written a few:

just scroll down for the SPN fics

"Rain of Feathers" is probably the one people like the best. It might even be considered a "classic". :-)

Awesome. You rock! <3

I doubt I'll write in the fandom, though, as horror just isn't one of my favourite genres.

Here's the thing, it's not specifically horror.Lots of fans love the monster of the week shows. I do no. Except for an odd S. King novel I never get horror either. But...the relationship between the brothers is heartbreaking, full of ups and downs, humor and angst. angel Castiel is hilarious, hot and you would really like his character. I would love to have you write something in this fandom.

The first couple of seasons do start out as horror-intended, but it's become more of a supernatural western mixed with comedy, horror, and action.

Make sure you read The Consequences of Falling by pandarus, definitely a fandom staple. And, if you want to try out something more on the light glowy gorgeous side, Light Up the Sky For Me by is fabulously in character but not dark. Both recs are pretty long.

I'm on an ongoing Sherlock Holmes binge and share your longing for more Holmes/Watson/Mary. There are a few authors who deliver really good Holmes/Watson, at least, most notably janeturenne. I also like katieforsythe's stories, which are all about the button-pushing.

(I started reading a highly-recced Merlin AU yesterday and gave up halfway through part one of two, because 1. I didn't recognise those people and 2. even if I had, I just don't care that much about them anymore. Or, you know, at all. Merlin seems to be my version of the fandom-I've-fallen-out-of-love-with.)

I did a crazy fannish thing today for 'The L word' and 'James Bond' as well as some BBC doco's and a training course in psychology. I waited outside the Post Office in the freak Perth storm today in an attempt to get my complete sets of DVDs. It is a sad tale that only a fan could understand. I drove through the hailstrom and the cyclonish winds to get to the post office. The hail was so large and hard hitting that I feared my windscreen and side windows would smash and I was having to dodge falling tree branches and flooding. I ran through the hail to get inside the shopping centre and quequed in the long line clutching my soggy parcel tickets. Finally I reached the counter and the clerk took my tickets out to the parcel room. Just then the shopping centre alarms went off ( ... )

This one is adorable, and since it's an AU there's none of the horror/angst of canon. It's very fluffy ( ... )
