LOL your review made me grin :) And I thought I was the only one annoyed by Charlie. To me the episode didn't quite suck - I like the MOC thing - but I agree someone hand the Winchesters their brains back please. Three times Dean got "outsmarted" because he was so damn naive about Charlie (mabye emotionally understandable due to their glaringly obvious parallels) and Sam - well Sam is useful when the writers need him to be. Honestly though, I think it started back in S4 when there was less and less episodes from Sam's POV up to the point it seems they almost forgot how to write him.
Right?! Fool me once shame on Charlie, fool me twice and thrice, maybe it's all those closed head injuries beginning to effect Dean as they have Sam.
I've said it before though; they can't write characters smarter than they are. There's no one on the current writing team who could write simple yet brilliant episodes like "The Usual Suspects" or "Faith." This bunch is always out-clevering themselves with all these ridiculous parallels. I can't even say that Dark!Charlie/Celeste was the worst we've seen.
Yes, I miss episodes like that. Faith is one of my top five all time favorites. They were simple, subtle and maybe a bit cheesy at times but the combo worked. They made SPN the little show that could
( ... )
I think the writers are trying too hard with their "we wanna please everyone", and their "we hear you, we know about your fanfic stuff - here you go it's on the show, now" rather than giving us what we originally based that fanfic on.
It's as if they're floundering these days. What's going to hit? What's going to miss? What do the fans want? What do the advertisers want? What does the network want?
Dean's turned into a teenager. Hilarity ensues, especially when teen Dean discovers the Mark is a chick magnet.
I'm already cringing with second-hand embarrassment, and Adam Glass has been playing it up on Twitter as though Jared pushed him to do it and boasting about Dylan Everett as though attacking the ep is attacking the actor. I feel dirty just talking about it.
I love your reviews. I didn't actually hate this week's episode but I totally get where you're coming from. Next week's I'm absolutely dreading. Adam Glass is not a good writer in my opinion (one of a team of not good writers, it would seem), and the whole concept looks lazy, half-arsed and creatively redundant. Like somebody said above, the fans are now writing better stories than the show. What does that say? The show needs better writers. Simples.
Like yourself, I also can't help being cynical about the whole convention circuit but I've gotten into hot water before by daring to voice my concerns, so I'll just leave it there.

It's like the "Dog Dean Afternoon" eps they do when Sam has the A-story (possessed by Gadreel). Comedy stuff to keep Sam busy. I guess.
