Yes, I miss episodes like that. Faith is one of my top five all time favorites. They were simple, subtle and maybe a bit cheesy at times but the combo worked. They made SPN the little show that could.
Now they're all so "We're so witty, here have a pie in your face." Which can be fun, once in a while - but not if it makes the majority of comedy. Also, I think at this point the involvement of the fandom has become more of a burden - too many people screaming "we want this" and others "no, we want that" and writers thinking they're cheeky when they pic up fanfic tropes. Like for example the de!aged thing next week. My initial reaction was "NO". But I'm crossing my fingers that if they keep Dean mentally an adult it might work like the old!Dean episode. Though the joke about acne being the worst issue had me go "just no... not funny."
I think the writer's are trying too hard with their "we wanna please everyone", and their "we hear you, we know about your fanfic stuff - here you go it's on the show, now" rather than giving us what we originally based that fanfic on.
I miss "scary just got sexy". So much stuff is watered down by now... I don't know why. And people still keep saying "OMG, so depressing and scary." I don't get it. Though IMO some of the MOW episodes early in this season had kinda the season 1 vibe, like "Ask Jeeves".
Crossing my fingers for the rest of the s10. I've stopped reading spoilers to at least go unbiased into the episodes.

It's as if they're floundering these days. What's going to hit? What's going to miss? What do the fans want? What do the advertisers want? What does the network want?
