Quite the day!

The day started off with taking Dahlia to the vet's (at 8:30am on a Saturday morning...argh!) for another lyme titer. Another $80 down the drain. I'll find out on Monday if the levels have come down far enough to not worry about it or if she needs more antibiotics. I hope this is the end of it. I know Dahlia would very much like to avoid ( Read more... )

Does she heel well offleash?

I am trying to figure out the best way to get Delilah to do it :/ she doesn't run off, she just doesn't stay velcroed like she will on leash.

Dahlia doesn't heel at all, unless she wants to be at your side. I just haven't bothered to really teach it to her as she'll stay at my side when needed and it's otherwise just not important to me. When it's off leash time, it's freedom time (within reason). She's allow to run up a head a bit, lag behind, zig zag, sniff things she wants to. Much of the walk is her stopping to sniff something and then running to catch up. She loves it and I love watching her run to me with a big grin on her face ( ... )

I should add that if she gets ahead of me I can tell her to stop or wait and she will, so allowing her the freedom is never a problem as she instantly stops and waits for me or rushes to me if I call her.

ahh. I can let the dogs go offleash and they won't go far from me.

This is much enjoyed at say, the beach or the dog park.

However Delilah can formally heel when I tell her to, vs regular just walking.. however I can't get her to do it off-leash. She obviously knows the difference, lol. It's something I need to work on, i'm just not sure how! I thought I'd go back and re-teach heel without the leash, but without me being able to 'stop' when she forges ahead and stopping her, it just ain't working out, lol.

i wish puppy would come back to me when i called him if he was off leash. the few times he escaped the yard* he just ran and ran until he got so tired he had to lay down. THEN i could catch him and walk him home. he just gets so excited i think his brain falls out.

*puppy discovered about two years ago that he could hop the chain link fence.
