so, you're saying that if the commercial tampon were never invented, crochet tampon patterns would be all over crochet and there would be no issue whatsoever. Hey, if Adam and Eve never ate the apple we would have no problems with the penises either. Sorry, I'm usually late to the party.

I dunno--I always thought they stuck with pads? Which, when you think about it, would be TONS easier to crochet. And you wouldn't have to worry about sterilizing them, just getting them decently cleaned in between use.

I've always wanted to talk to the chick who came up with the idea of a tampon; clearly pioneer material, if not an actual pioneer of the historical sort.

The person who patented the original design of the commercial tampon was actually a man.

I think we need to make a little bag for tampons only, ok...so that was a bit off topic

Damn! Their site is down. I hope they didn't go out of business because then I will have to rush around and buy every instead in town...
Here's the google cache if you don't believe me:

I don't think the sterilized yarn and hook would be much of a concideration, because your hands and working environment aren't going to be sterile, but you could definitely make one out of cotton and sterilize (boil) it between uses. You'd want to make it fairly firm or stiff, I should think.

bacteria can build up in the core of a tampon, and a couple people have died from not changing them frequently enough (yes really) - from contracting BLOOD POISONING.

You may not be able to wash it adequately for reuse, and i assume if you put all that time into crocheting it, that is what you would have in mind.

Please don't risk it.
