I'd crochet an instead cozy, but they already come in such nice purple plastic bags..

Damn! Their site is down. I hope they didn't go out of business because then I will have to rush around and buy every instead in town...
Here's the google cache if you don't believe me:

I love them. Love love love. I only use tampons when I'm out of Instead (like if I get my period early at work or something).
Cos c'mon. The tampon string. SO annoying.

Have you considered getting a Diva Cup? This site sells them. They're like an instead, except they can be reused. I freakin' love mine.

Actually, I need to make a new bag for mine. The one I have came apart.

I've thought about trying one, but i'm not sure I like the shape. If only they were shaped more like instead. Instead are so easy to get in and I usually can't feel them once they're in.

Just piping in on the Diva Cup -- I found it a bit tricky to get the hang of, but with a little practice I find it super easy to get in and I completely don't notice it. I can't say enough good things about them. They come with an awesome one-year warranty so you have nothing to lose trying it out. You have a whole year to decide whether or not you like it, which is plenty of time to give it a fair shake. I did find that trimming the little stem on it made it way more comfy (I don't even notice it now), which might invalidate that warranty, but I just waited till I was sure about it to trim it.

That they do! ::points::

And I'm rather grossed out by the crocheted functional pads, btw. There was an uproar over someone who sewed fabric/flannel ones a while back on LJdrama I think...

If you're not grossed out by blood and want something you don't have to machine or handwash a zillion times...Instead cups rock and are comfy. :)

I've seen the fabric ones on various cloth diapering sites.

I'm ok with them in theory, though I don't think I'd use them myself. What got me was the cutesy-cutesy patterns that the person was selling them in. Like litlte cowboys and indians and tea parties and things like that. I just don't know that I want little tea parties catching my monthlies, ya know?

ROFL!
Yeah - I don't get parents that use cloth diapers...but I guess buying 50 or so bandanas then washing them out everyday so they don't stink doens't bother them either.

I don't have time for that shit. No pun intended. :)

Instead is OK, but a Keeper or a Diva cup is better. :) Cheaper too. I only use Instead of sex anymore.

I had no idea this world of menstruation alternatives existed.

I remember when o.b. came out and I was all, "You have to stick your finger up your crotch?!?" And thinking that was all horribly dirty and evil. Of course, I was a little naive early-teens-virgin.
