so, you're saying that if the commercial tampon were never invented, crochet tampon patterns would be all over crochet and there would be no issue whatsoever. Hey, if Adam and Eve never ate the apple we would have no problems with the penises either. Sorry, I'm usually late to the party.
I dunno--I always thought they stuck with pads? Which, when you think about it, would be TONS easier to crochet. And you wouldn't have to worry about sterilizing them, just getting them decently cleaned in between use.
I've always wanted to talk to the chick who came up with the idea of a tampon; clearly pioneer material, if not an actual pioneer of the historical sort.
Huh. According to that entry, though, there's evidence of historical usage. Now I'm really curious about that, I wish there were more specifics...I'd assumed it was a more modern thing.
i read (damned if i remember where, somewhere in a craft community) a girl felted some wool and used it as a pad. there's an idea. i don't know if it HAS to be felted, but it's a start.
Oh my gosh, I was so shocked by this for a second that I had to think about it. One, wool would be soooo uncomfortable! Two, you said "don't know if it HAS to be felted" and I thought you meant just stuff loose wool down there and I thought no no no! But I assume you meant "fulled" instead of "felted". Sorry, just had to comment because of the horror that went through my head. :-P
