Weeping Angels Costume

Hello, Fellow Crafty people!

I am having a problem with a costume that I am designing for this year’s Fan Expo in Toronto. It’s in August, so no rush, but I would like to get this done before July ends to be on the safe side, and give me a chance to practice wearing it.

I am trying for the Weeping Angel creature. My problem is this: How do ( Read more... )

I think i might make a fairly tight fitting harness out of webbing to wear under the robes. I'd have a waist belt and straps coming up the back and over each arm. I'd attach stabilising straps horizontally to stabilise the over arm straps as they would hold the wings. The robes would be made with the neck and arm pieces complete and the back made in three pieces with a seam where the wings sit. Only the top few inches of these seams would be sewn, the rest would be hemmed and I would use velcro to attach them to either side of each wing.
i figure this would have the benefit of secure wings, hidden harness, fairly easy dressing (slip robe over head and through arms before fastening) and it would look like the wings and robes were made together thus being indicative of being carved from one piece of stone.

Oooh! Like the Velcro idea, especially as my hair will be up in a bun under a wig, so no getting caught. Thank you!

I was planning to make a weeping angel too but Toronto's FanExpo is over croweded and I was afraid of over heating and breaking the costume.

Have you tried looking at the Replica Prop Forum? There are a few tutorials on there.

Here are some websites I found there:

Good luck!

Ooh, Penwiper was just the person I was thinking of! Glad that the breakdown has been made available outside LJ, because it's brilliant.

Must check those out, Thanks! Oh, and I don't think that you would over heat in it, as the arms are bare, and if you did it in a light weight fabric, like a broadcloth, you should be fine. I went last year as a Jawa, and it was just a little hot, with the hood up.

I over heat a lot more than others. I have constantly sweaty hands and feet so if I went with paint it would just get everywhere. Also if I went with the pantyhose version I would over heat for sure.

Ask at dw_cosplay. I know that someone did actually put together a Weeping Angels costume for a con, and would be able to advise on what they did then. (I think some kind of close-fitting webbing was about the size of it.)

All the above is good advice. My friend actually made the original Angel wings for 'Blink', so If you want I can ask him about how he did the harnesses If It's any help?

Hi,

Fortunately for you, someone has already solved this problem and explained how they did it - it was penwiper337 here on this community in fact!

Voila - http://community.livejournal.com/crafty_tardis/152724.html

She shows you how she put together and mounted the wings, and then covered the join with the robe fabric.

Okay, thanks, but it wasn't quite the look I was going for. I am also playing on wearing this in August, so the whole leggings and complete face covering would get waaay too hot. That's what face make-up is for.

Good hints on the harness, though.

Sorry, I was really referring to the problem of the wings - she has really good pictures of their construction
