To Crack or Not To Crack

... That is the question! Are you unsure if your chosen pairing is really considered a crack ship or not? I know there are so many exceptions, what with all the subtext in canon. (Or was that fanon? Oh my.) So I've decided to try and ease your uncertainties. Note that the definition for "crack ship" in this community may be a bit different from the ( Read more... )

A "big bang" as a challenge is one where you have to produce a lengthy fic. For this particular one, you have to create a 10,000-word story. After submitting your fic, an artist will then create an illustration, graphic, fanmix, or fanvid to accompany it. For this community, we also have a shorter-story option, known as the "mini-bang", in which you create a 5,000-word story instead. If you have any more questions, I'd suggest reading the FAQ first. :)

Okay I am currently trying to decide on plots/pairings for this challenge and I thought I would ask about this pairing because I know a lot of people that ship it but I also know there is very little fanfic for them. So for this challenge would Robb Stark/Dacey Mormont count? I have other pairings I might write as well, this is just the one where I've had a fic plotbunny for months and months and I just haven't written it yet.

Yes, it counts for this challenge. :) I'd consider it still a rare ship or a borderline rare ship.

Do the pairings that I write have to be romantic?

If not, I'd write Roger Davies/Leanne from Harry Potter. Leanne's a first-name-only character who appears once in Half-Blood Prince and Roger is a Ravenclaw Quidditch player who took Fleur to the Yule Ball. They've never interacted in canon and barely have characterization since they're such minor characters. (If I could write a gen fic, I have so many ideas that it's kind of hilarious, haha.)

Taking note of this comment for when I will be editing the FAQ. Thanks for the question!

Ideally, ships should be romantic for this challenge, but you are also free to write gen-centric stories as long as they still focus on your main ship.

Since I don't want to break rules/be that "one writer" who has to bend the rules in order to participate, I'll write about the romantic pairing of Roger/Leanne. Thank you for the clarification! Also, sorry for being so wishy-washy...;~;

I'm sorry if I've made it appear that way. :( It's the first round for this challenge and having asked the question, I think you'll be giving other potential participants another option. A 'ship' is technically a relationship so gen type relationships fall under crack ships, too. So don't worry about it, please!

I had a question, I signed up with one of my claims for Fullmetal Alchemist Kain Fuey/Jean Havoc, Can I change it to Envy/Kain Fuery? My muse died on the other fic, and it likes this a lot.

Thanks Vexed
