Making big piles of progress in the move. Almost everything is out of the old apartment except for some cleaning supplies, unused boxes and beverages. They've already started work on some remodeling (new floors, new oven) so we don't have to clean some of it. The TiVos are all set up and functional (although one is still sitting on the floor).
The cable guy arrived (late) but swapped out the boxes.
Our new printer is set up and functional.

We had our big moving day yesterday. Many thanks to nicholay, thedrunkengent, lthomas987,kalmn and the rest of the Lundsten clan for all of their help. I kept underestimating how much we had to move, but all in all it worked out pretty well. Our house now has internet access.

It also has two cable boxes that the cable company wants to replace on Sunday because they're slightly fancier than they'd like us to have.

And I hauled three car loads of stuff into the house today.

We moved a bunch of boxes into the new house last night. Unfortunately things were slightly complicated by a football game at the school across the street. Cars were parked all along both streets outside of the house. monstersocks and I went out yesterday and bought a lawn mower. Today we assembled it and mowed our lawn. monstersocks also spent some time being cruel to some weeds. While mowing isn't a fun endeavor it's definitely different mowing our lawn than mowing my parents' lawn or the lawn at school ( Read more... )

After many trials and tribulations we have finally purchased a house. We had the closing today and it went so smoothly that it was a little anti-climactic. Now all we have to do is move everything we own into it (and get new stuff that we haven't needed before).

A little while back monstersocks and I made an offer on a house, started negotiations and then someone else swooped in and made an offer the sellers liked better. We grudgingly accepted that we'd lost the house and went on vacation, trying to put it behind us and get ready for looking at some new houses later ( Read more... )

We didn't get the house.

We made our offer, the seller's made a counter-offer, we made a counter offer, another offer showed up, the seller decided they liked that one better and rejected our offer at that point.

It seems likely that the other offer was for more than we were willing to pay for the house. Unfortunately that doesn't help much.
