This word sounds very funny, шt comes from the Carpathian word Ukraine) " popryga " , which means "pepper" ( paprika ) . This is a purely Hungarian snack , we often eat it with vodka . We - transcarpathian people, adopted this recipe and use it for a long time . It is very easy to cook , and the result is delicious!

I think my understanding of lard and how you've used it is not quite adding up! To me, lard is rendered fat - like a tallow almost - white, solid at room temperature, and easily meltable. What you've used looks like some kind of fatty cut of meat. I'm intrigued though, can you help me figure out the approximation if possible please?

My husband and his family (Ukrainian) make it with pork belly.

EDITED TO ADD: Sorry, this was supposed to be in response to the "what cut of meat is this exactly?" question. While I don't know what the OP used..I know my spouses family uses Pork Belly or really faty Pork Loin..and I've even had it made with chicken. It really was just whatever his grandmother or mother or aunts had on hand.

Can you clarify two things for me? First what does the "pepper 7pc" mean? Like seven pieces of black pepper corn (I assuming it's black pepper corn)? Second, when you say "grate" do mean "cover" it? I'm asking because I want to make this and attempts to Google it only get me chicken paprikash recipes.

Ok. So. when I say "pepper 7pc" you are right - that s mean "black pepper corn ". Maybe it s wrong to say "grate", you have to cover the fat using paprika mixture, that s correct ! :)
