This word sounds very funny, шt comes from the Carpathian word Ukraine) " popryga " , which means "pepper" ( paprika ) . This is a purely Hungarian snack , we often eat it with vodka . We - transcarpathian people, adopted this recipe and use it for a long time . It is very easy to cook , and the result is delicious!

I think my understanding of lard and how you've used it is not quite adding up! To me, lard is rendered fat - like a tallow almost - white, solid at room temperature, and easily meltable. What you've used looks like some kind of fatty cut of meat. I'm intrigued though, can you help me figure out the approximation if possible please?

Reminds me of the Italian lardo (no I am not making that word up). But I know what you mean- when I first read 'lard' I was thinking that stuff that comes in the can that old ladies use to cook with. I had to do a double-take with the photo to understand OP's lard was different.

(What you and I were thinking of must be an American thing)?

Very hard to translate this kinf of fat. It is a pork belly, or you can use a fat cut of meat or something like this. Maybe the word "lard" isnt correct in this recipe :)
