Grandmother:
One of the Hufflepuff boys told me that I wasn't a bad Chaser for a girl. I don't want that. Why does it have to have that 'for a girl' part added on to it? Why can't I just be a good player regardless of my sex? Eunice is the best seeker at Hogwarts and she's a girl. And all of the Holyhead Harpies are witches and they almost beat

"For a girl," eh? Well, our team has a fair amount of excellent players, and our best Chasers have been girls.
*shrugs*
*as if it explains everything*
Boys.

*frowns*
Yeah. For a girl.
*lets out a bit of a sigh then smiles*
Oh? That's brilliant. I'd love to see a team at Hogwarts be all girls, like the Harpies. Can you imagine that?
*small laugh*
Yeah. Boys. Just because they can piss standing up, aye?

*broad grin*
That would be brilliant. And if that team won the Cup too!
*amused roll of the eyes*
Indeed.
*thoughtfully*
But Gryffindor's been doing really well, even if there are boys on the team. Just, you know, sometimes they can be really obnoxious.
Reply
*quiet snort*
They probably would too.
*nods*
Aye, we were brilliant in the game against Ravenclaw, despite our lads. Luckily most of them are accustomed to having girls on the team because of Eunice.

Girls shouldn't be playing Quidditch at all, not if they've been brought up properly.

Just what do you mean 'brought up properly'?
Reply
Simply that Quidditch is no game for a lady.

Oh aye. I think that's rather close to it.

See? That's why I think it's silly because everyone gets into fights about it but it's just a game and if you're good at it then you're good at it!
I don't think it matters if you're a girl or a boy in the end, just so long as you play well and you don't act like an idiot.

That's what I think. Doesna matter what's between your legs, so long as you've got a good head on your shoulders and you ken how to play well.

I know Muggle girls didn't play football or cricket or participate in 'unladylike' activities back then. My mum said it changed during the war though, when all the men went off to fight and the women took up their duties. Was it the same for you?
Reply
It was more acceptable in the wizarding world than the Muggle world, certainly but still not heavily encouraged.
*expression flickers momentarily at the mention of the war*
Aye. There was quite the backlash after that for Muggle women in the next decade but that didn't seem to last very long. As your mother can attest to.

But of course she didn't listen. She went on to university and and she got her doctorate in anthropology! She said that British society has changed a lot since she first started uni.
*curious* Has there been many changes in wizarding society since you've were in school?
Reply
Complete rubbish. Even if a woman chooses to do that, she should be as educated as she wishes.
*nods*
Your mother sounds like a woman I would love to meet. A pratical ambitious woman.
*lets out a slow breath*
We went through a war right after I finished. And I fear that wizarding society may have regressed in their attitudes toward people who were not purebloods.
Wow... *throws a letter bunny at you* Lily's mum takes tea with McGonagall.

Yeah!! Magpies! Woooooo!!!
*enthusiastically*
Aren't they just the best team EVER?
Reply
Aye they are. They're my favourite team. My da takes me to their matches when he can.
Reply
They're my favourite team, too!!!
*nods excitedly*
My dad takes me to matches, too!
*frowns*
Though my sister likes the Prides better...
*rolls eyes*
I try to tell her the Magpies are better...
But she just doesn't listen!
