So I am house-sitting starting today, and there is no internet (I am posting from my phone, but I will get myself to a cafe tomorrow to leech internets) BUT to entertain myself while here I brought my oofuri dvds along with a disc binder full of dvd type things. In going through it, I discovered that I still have some old hong kong badsub dvds of ( Read more... )

Oh, Hikaru no Go will be my favorite forever and ever. Hikaru and Akira are so in love with one another, it's ridiculous. I am guilty of watching episodes 7, 18, 55, 73, 74 and 75 on indefinite repeat, forever and ever. For maximum... what do they call it? Rival yay? Yes, that.

Ahem. I adore the Akira/Hikaru and Abe/Mihashi parallels. Seriously, lets just assume that if one boy is checking the hand of another boy for calluses in the beginning of an anime, the anime may be prone to painting those boys as a couple.

Just saying.

I love how many Oofuri fans are die-hard Hikaru no Go fans as well. So eerily common!

Hove you watched Hajime no Ippo? It's about boxing. But the rival love (to Hikaru no Go) is similar, and it's a really moving anime. I never thought I'd be watching sports animes a few years ago, but here I am on to the hard drugs like boxing. Honestly.

*Shakes fist at Oofuri* Darn you gateway to sports anime ( ... )

Hikaru and Akira are PAINFULLY epic! They are all mutual respect and admiration and Hikaru wants to become stronger because he admires Akira and wants Akira to see him instead of Sai and it is BEAUTIFUL he wants so badly to be the one that Akira sees and Akira is all D: Take me seriously~~~ because he can't know about Sai (matchmaker extraordinairre) and yes. YES.

If you'd asked me about Hajime no Ippo earlier this year I would not have known it, but vespabee recced it to me and now I am completely caught up. Miyata and Ippo do indeed have a similar rival-love going on because oh em gee they are both constantly thinking about each other and... yeah. Beautiful.

*___*; I am on pst, feel free to blab at me while you can't sleep. Insomnia is a thing I deeply understand.

Have you read Intentional Ambiguity - coded references to same-sex attraction in Hikaru no Go? If not, do it now. It's not the most well-organized essay, but damn does it VALIDATE MY LIFE.

I love Hikaru no Go more than anything because I, like the above essayist, am convinced that it IS a gay love story. Like, without fandom goggles. It is just seriously a subdued gay love story. It is amazing.

Which is also part of why I love Oofuri almost as much, because I think Abe is definitely a gay boy. Not sure that he understands that yet himself, but he really is. God, I love him.

I'm somewhere around episode 30 of Ippo at the moment. I definitely can't slash Ippo and Miyata, because Ippo is so very straight. But damn the rivalry is man-dorable.

Maaaaaan why do all the cool kids live on the pacific side?

I also am prone to thinking that yes, these are love stories. With Oofuri HOW CAN IT NOT BE, Higuchi has a psychology degree, she must know what she is presenting, argh, and I AM GOING TO GO READ THAT ESSAY IMMEDIATELY ( ... )

Still haven't seen Hikaru no Go, but I've always been curious.

Have you watched any of Season 2 of Hajime no Ippo yet? ;)
