Hey guys, I got a few hits in at unsettledink's second Comment Fic War! Didn't have time to do as much as I'd hoped, but I really enjoyed writing for a new fandom--- Rango! Seriously, I was like. A. I was like "OMGGGG I BET THE COLONEL'S GONNA SHOW WITH SOME MEGAMIND AND GMD, SO EXCITED!" And B. I was all "OH I REALLY HOPE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO DOES RANGO!" So for YOU to be the one who does Rango? I FLIPPED MY SHIT.

Haha, when I saw the fic war open up, I had no idea what I planned to write. I just wanted to see if anything caught my fancy, and when I saw YOU starting a Rango thread, I was like, OH HELL YES. XD

*shivers* Oh my yes ^_^ I am.. SO glad I wasn't the only one who ended up completely enamored of Jake (oh, coarse-'n-smooth, weirdly romantic Western outlaw ideal in bad-fucking-ass rattlesnake form. And a GUN BARREL as his rattle. Totally boss. Also the Bill Nighy didn't hurt.)

I might also have squeaked out loud a little when I saw there was more Great Mouse Detective ficlet (not the least because I might have been reading over the existing stuff a couple times over again and letting my mind run wild on the GAH WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? front). And wow what an about-face! :D Finally taking ah, a more active hand in these dalliances, eh Basil? And still, as ever, keeping Ratigan on his toes. Figuratively. Possibly literally too. UNNNNFFFF.

Ugh. The moment we walked out of the movie theatre, I turned to my companion and declared, "I have a total crush on the snake." This companion, being a reader of my GMD fics and others, was not surprised in the least. XD ( ... )

LOL I didn't even realize who it was at first, and I was biased early on to like him as a character because (1) I like snakes. My gold cornsnake is easily the coolest pet I've ever had. They're freaking cool animals. The look cool and move cool and watching them eat is both hilarious and terrifying. (2) His whole concept was so clever, I dunno, him folding out his venom teeth to fill a glass like a bar tap, enveloped in string after string of ammo belts (would he even be able to get to them to reload?), BARREL-RATTLE. (3) I almost always end up adoring the villain in kids' movies. Not that I don't like the protagonists, but with the villains, it tends to feel more like the writer/s letting loose and getting into all the nitty-gritty, darker places they can't let themselves get into with good guys.*

That's kinda what Rattlesnake Jake felt like to me--they got in their naughty jokes and some really good homages to the genre, but Jake was where they invested all their stylistic flair and real legendary badass killer business. No ( ... )

And I totally agree with all the points you make here, especially about Jake being the genuine article. Yeah, from the moment he shot that glass full of venom, I was head over heels, no saving me. *___* Good call with the Charlie Prince comparison! I remember when Jake showed up I was literally stunned. Like I said, the rest of the movie had been so (comparatively) light, then suddenly there was this grim shadow that fell over the proceedings. Jake is a straight-up mean character, but yes, he has that outlaw honor code, which is fantastic.

And I remember, because it was a Western kid's movie, I was convinced that Jake was going to get killed off at the end. I was actively dreading it. I was DREADING it, I tell you! When he thundered off into the desert at the end, I could have cheered! 8D

EXACTLY. I can't wait till this first draft is complete and my writing schedule is a little more relaxed. I miss writing fic all the time. There's no hope for me. XD

Very glad to hear that these were enjoyed, my dear. One of these days I'm going to have all the time in the world to write all the fic I want! In the meantime, I suppose these will have to do. ^_^

Well I've got another one of my classic full-length smutfics in the cooker, but it's a son of a bitch finding the time to work on it. I was actually really hoping to get it done sometime this weekend, but I don't want to make any promises. :P

Haha, I was very inspired--- we watched every single one of these movies while you were here! :D

I'm especially glad that you like that little EP fic. I haven't written anything for them in, well, years, and they're amazing characters to revisit. This fic is of course set in my happy universe, not the Grenade universe. XD

Yes, we did! And I'm glad you wrote a Rango ficlet. It makes up for the initial horror of that movie-theater mix-up. :)
