Jared sees how hunched Jensen’s shoulders are at lunch and at the end of the day when they’re signing out and can’t help but feel for the guy. Jensen stops before he signs his name and mutters crap.

“What’s wrong Jensen? Did something else happen?” Jared asks, hoping nothing else has.

“No. Well, yes. I forgot to tell Matt to come pick me up, and he doesn’t know what time school gets out. And since I don’t have my phone, I can’t really call anyone else,” Jensen says, rubbing the bridge of his noise like he has a huge headache. Jared bets he does and doesn’t even think twice before opening his mouth with the offer.

“Hey, why don’t I take you out for coffee, make you feel a little bit better, then I can drop you home? And don’t say no, I know how much you like your coffee, and the crap they have in the teacher’s lounge sucks. I don’t even drink coffee much, and I at least know that.”

It’s too late to take it back, not that Jared really wants to. It’s a chance to be alone with Jensen outside of school.

Jensen looks at him, biting his lower lip as he’s internally deciding, Jared assumes.

“Man, Jared, I’d appreciate that so much you have no idea. Are you sure? My apartment is kind of on the other side of town.”

“Dude, this is a college town, it’s tiny. Even on the other side of town, it’s about fifteen minutes away. And I offered, so hell yes I’m sure.”

Jensen finally nods and Jared grins brightly at him, waiting as Jensen signs himself out and leading Jensen to his truck. It’s not a new truck, kind of old and beat up really, but it’s Jared’s and Jared loves it.

“Only rule is not to mock the truck,” Jared tells Jensen as he unlocks the doors.

Jensen laughs his gorgeous laugh and agrees.

“I’ll do my best,” he solemnly swears, though Jared can see the edges of his mouth twitch a little like they are trying to hold back the laughter.

They go to Jared’s favorite coffee place a couple of blocks from campus where he used to go and study. It’s not Starbucks, but Jared swears it might be a little better. Cheaper too. The atmosphere is one of the reasons Jared loves it so much. There’s dim lighting, bright enough to study, but soothing enough so that people are quiet.

Both of them get to the counter and Jensen orders one of their regular coffees with the Kenyan beans while Jared gets his peppermint white chocolate mocha with extra whipped cream and chocolate drizzle.

Jensen just looks at him.

“You sure that’s coffee, man?” he asks.

“Shut up. Also, don’t you dare reach for your wallet, it’s on me,” Jared says when he sees Jensen’s hand go in his pocket. He doesn’t really think before his next words tumble out. “You can get the next one.”

Jensen doesn’t hesitate, though. “Yeah fine, but you better let me get the next one. I’m not a kept man,” he says jokingly. Jared stops the inappropriate thoughts before they can start and shrugs.

They get their coffees and settle down on two of the many plush armchairs scattered everywhere.

“You were right, this place is amazing,” Jensen says with a content sigh. Jared can’t help but smile back, glad that he got Jensen to relax a little bit. Jared maybe did this on purpose because he knows Jensen could never say no to coffee and maybe that tips the scales a little bit in his direction.
