Katrina crash

irony, n: keeping a data center fully operational through a hurricane, flooding, looting and madness, only to be brought down by a Slashdot postingYes, it's another Katrina posting.  Maybe you're well and truly sick of reading about it by now, for which I apologize-well, no, I don't apologize.  It's my blog and I'll continue to be pissed off if I ( Read more... )

You do still care, right?

I do! Wish me (and someone else) luck- I am still trying to connect and help someone. I am sorry, I can't look at the sites you posted right now. I am tired of crying. And it hasn't just been Katrina, a lot of other shit was going on this week, but still- every time I read a story about the after-effects of Katrina it would send me into sobs. Or homicidal rages. I can't take that kind of mood swing without really good medication, of which I have none. Who the fuck would shoot at a rescue helicopter with no demands or plan- just randomly shooting shit in the wind?????????????

The Elf made a remark about how this didn't happen during the tsunami, and I could only voice the first thing that came to mind- of course not- they don't own guns over there.

Not that I am anti-gun, but shit people, this kind of anarchy didn't happen (or didn't get reported) during 9-11 or the big blackouts? So why can't NO hold it together long enough to NOT shoot at their rescuers?

thanks for that Map. WOW.

There is no parallel to draw with 9/11.

The Rodney King riots come to mind as a better parallel. People trashing and stealing from their own neighborhoods. The only difference being the first trigger was man-made, the second was nature-made. As you say, with 09-11, we could focus on an external enemy. This time it's ourselves.

I'm getting an error from that (Invalid syntax?) but if it's the same one I found last night they encrypted it this morning and you can't really listen to it anymore. =/

I'm guessing they've secured a lot of their channels now.

Care, hell. I'm trying to figure out what to do.

Lots of people say "Donate cash, Going there on your own will just cause more problems of logistics."

But I don't see the people on the ground solving a lot of problems.

Thanks for the notice re: the stampede.

I'm linking this post for the people in my school community for the links to various blogs, if that's ok.

Honestly, I find myself caring more about the bridge stampede than the Katrina destruction. The stampede seems much more tragic to me. Natural disasters are just a fact of life; people in California have to deal with earthquakes, people in Kansas have to deal with tornadoes, and people on the coast have to deal with hurricanes. And while I care and sympathize for the people who have been hurt by this hurricane, it doesn't bother me too much. It doesn't make me think "wow, that's fucked up ( ... )
