Honestly, I find myself caring more about the bridge stampede than the Katrina destruction. The stampede seems much more tragic to me. Natural disasters are just a fact of life; people in California have to deal with earthquakes, people in Kansas have to deal with tornadoes, and people on the coast have to deal with hurricanes. And while I care and sympathize for the people who have been hurt by this hurricane, it doesn't bother me too much. It doesn't make me think "wow, that's fucked up".

The bridge stampede does. This wasn't a natural phenomenon which can be expected to happen. This was masses amount of people getting hysterical about terrorists, and acting completely irrational and killing lots of people in the process. Maybe it's because I don't like crowds, but this story bothered me much more than the hurricane stuff. Or maybe it's just that this hurricane is pretty close to that last huge tidal wave thing that killed lots of people, and so it sort of seems like "more of the same".

I sure as hell am glad now that I wasn't accepted to Tulane now, though.
