Sit down and get comfortable

Internets, there was a lot of jackassery today. It's kind of impressive.

The Wicked Pretty Things imbroglio: Jessica Verday explained that she was pulling out of the YA anthology because she was asked to make a story with a male/male romance into a male/female romance. No problem with the actual content, violence or language; just make one of the ( Read more... )

wtf, publishing, appropriate responses to bad situations, books, shenanigans, down with this sort of thing, fraud, asshaberdashery, well that happened

As a (apparently former) Scott Adams fan, I am deeply chagrined. DEEPLY.

Holy moley, that Scott Adams thing. I can't believe he wasn't aware of the implication he was making.

(And aw. I actually really liked Sucker Punch, but I can see why others might not.)

(I liked it too, though the ending made me all sad inside which I was not expecting at all)

I think I've seen so much anime with similar downer endings that I was almost expecting it. The whole movie felt very anime to me. I called it a dystopian Sailor Moon in my LJ.

haha thats a good point. Clearly I'm going soft. Dystopian Sailor Moon sounds accurate to me.

I'm kind of surprised to see Francesca Lia Block's name on that anthology, tbh. Isn't she well-known for having gay characters in her books?

Give her time to find out about this. Lisa Mantchev only dropped out this afternoon, IIRC. It's a situation in progress.

Yay for Jessica Verday and all the others pulling out of that mess. That 'apology' was one of the most condescending, "tee-hee, I guess I might see why you're miffed. But you still like me, right? 'Cause I'm totes cool!" attempts at brushing someone off that I've seen.

And OMG, Scott Adams, douchecanoe of the year.

I love that YA authors are a community and support each other.

Lulz at "douchecanoe". I love that word. XD

And Jessica Verday sounds like a brave, wonderful woman. Seriously. ^__^

It's one of my favorite words. Comes in handy a bit too much sometimes. . .

On the plus side, I see "light on alternative sexuality" as being a phrase with so many useful ironic applications.
