Internets, there was a lot of jackassery today. It's kind of impressive.

The Wicked Pretty Things imbroglio: Jessica Verday explained that she was pulling out of the YA anthology because she was asked to make a story with a male/male romance into a male/female romance. No problem with the actual content, violence or language; just make one of the ( Read more... )

Yay for Jessica Verday and all the others pulling out of that mess. That 'apology' was one of the most condescending, "tee-hee, I guess I might see why you're miffed. But you still like me, right? 'Cause I'm totes cool!" attempts at brushing someone off that I've seen.

And OMG, Scott Adams, douchecanoe of the year.

I love that YA authors are a community and support each other.

This! Jessica Verday handled the situation wonderfully, not willing to give in to homophobia. I think she expressed herself pretty well on that, that it shouldn't even be a hard choice whether to pull out of that book deal or not.

And how fucking ridiculous was that I Know Gay People, I'm not Homophobic apology? That was so random! What are those publishers thinking, employing a women who clearly has a very, very loose grasp on TACT? (and common sense!)
